Whatever game they want to take. After the CBS selection the entire board is open. ESPN, the mothership, gets the next selection. The next best game on the board, so to speak, is what game falls there.
CBS would have to buy the broadcast rights, so to speak. They are stepping out of their contract (first choice, afternoon on CBS) and with this year they would be trying to add another double header. They only have the broadcast rights to one night game (double header that ends at night.) They have two double headers per season.

It's a case of ESPN saying, "We'd like to add another game at night and you have rights to it with our mandated first choice of the afternoon game. We'll pay you to add one more game this season...this time at night, with these teams."
They likely wouldn't. I can't see why they would. I brought that up because of the coverage about the possibility of it being moved and they (CBS) haven't approached the SEC about it over the last two weeks.

A week or so ago @uscvball and I discussed some fans being upset about this...it's been a "storyline" for several weeks now.

If you didn't know ... UGA vs Notre Dame had a little over nine million viewers. 2011 Bama vs LSU ... 20 million.

Do you not look at the schedule and at least guess at what the kickoff time might be? Or, who is broadcasting the game? There are mandatory SECN appearances ...

CBS doesn't have to buy the broadcast rights. They own the SEC afternoon time slot. I think they realize the odds are slim that the SEC would give them another prime time game. If ESPN wants to air the game they are going to have to pay the SEC and/or CBS a hell of a lot of money. I'd bet more than a dollar that the game will be on CBS in the afternoon.

    @COTiger

Back in 2011 the broadcast deal with the SEC allowed for one prime time game. It's the same today. In 2011 they used it on Alabama at Florida. Then came the Bama vs LSU game.

Then, just like now, it doesn't matter IF they'd broadcast the game. It's a matter of when. CBS made a deal with ESPN to move the game to primetime. If they were to do it again, they'd have to negotiate a deal with ESPN after approval from the SEC offices.

You're right. Just like CBS had to buy the game in '11, ESPN would this season. CBS was going to get it no matter what. It's the time slot/broadcast rights for said time slot, they'd have to purchase.

CBS has already used their 14 day option on the game. It's an afternoon kick.

Just for reference sake...this is from a month and a half ago. At that time CBS picked three games and said "we'll make a decision within six days of kickoff which game we'll broadcast." Sometimes they do that within a 14 day window.

The SEC Office on Monday announced the start times and television networks that will televise its games on Saturday, October 19.

The schedule for the eighth weekend of the regular season is comprised of seven conference games and no non-conference games.

CBS has exercised its option to place three games on a six-day selection process for its afternoon time period. CBS will televise either Kentucky at Georgia or LSU at Mississippi State or Florida at South Carolina on October 19. CBS will announce its selection after games of October 12.

The weekly SEC Network triple-header will feature Auburn at Arkansas in the first game of the day, Missouri at Vanderbilt in the afternoon window and Texas A&M at Ole Miss in primetime.

SEC Television Schedule for Saturday, October 19, 2019:

    • Auburn at Arkansas, 12 pm ET / 11 am CT on SEC Network
    • LSU at Mississippi State, 12 pm ET / 11 am CT on ESPN or 3:30 pm ET/2:30 pm CT on CBS or 6 pm ET / 5 pm CT on ESPN*
    • Florida at South Carolina, 12 pm ET / 11 am CT on ESPN or 3:30 pm ET/2:30 pm CT on CBS or 6 pm ET / 5 pm CT on ESPN*
    • Kentucky at Georgia, 3:30 pm ET/2:30 pm CT on CBS or 6 pm ET / 5 pm CT on ESPN*
    • Missouri at Vanderbilt, 4 pm ET / 3 pm CT on SEC Network
    • Texas A&M at Ole Miss, 7:30 pm ET/6:30 pm CT on SEC Network
    • Tennessee at Alabama, 9 pm ET / 8 pm CT on ESPN
*Game time and network to be announced after games of October 12.
