appreciate the info, but like i said, we need pitchers. hopefully the other pitchers around him made him better and he just needs a chance to shine. i would say that right now, as it stands, we might be OK with pitching, but if some of those guys on the roster don't step up and perform, we are going to be in a bind.
bradshaw needs to grab the bull by the horns and become that strong-armed friday night guy we need. he, lasuzzo and alsup are all great (if not inconsistent) pitchers, hopefully that extra year of maturity is what they need to take the next step. ott will be OK. i wonder if it's too much to ask for some middle relief from him? that seems to be the biggest concern right now.
agree. the numbers dont look so bad, but the young guys have to step up. and as you said, hopefully that extra year will be the ticket. but we have an awfully young pitching staff now. hopefully the guys that are now sophmores will be able to step it up more as relievers, and that some of our freshmen can come in and get some experience and get the job done. cotton wasnt that bad, and i can see him as a midweek starter with some more experience and maturity.
agreed, likewise. man... i hate to harp on it, but i was SO looking forward to chris matulis finally getting it together. perhaps the biggest disappointment in LSU pitching history. not a disappointment from anything on his part, but that kid just couldn't catch a break.
the transfers and injuries have me nervous. i mean, after his injury rehab, its not like matulis would be ridin the pine at lsu and transferred so he will get playing time.... im hoping its just me being nervous nellie. oh, and im REALLY l;ooking forward to seeing gausman pitch!
Okie, I talked to one of my customers who pitched in college and who's son got a scholarship to ULL (I think). He's a sports medicine specialist and I asked him about his opinion of all the Tommy John surgeries to LSU's pitching staff. Specifically, I asked him if he thought that the pitching coach was responsible for the injuries... ...He immediately (before I finished asking the question) said no...no way. He said that the high school and playground coaches wear these kids out. There's a lot of talk about counting pitches but, in a pinch, they use kids for a couple of innings when they shouldn't. He really thought that the injuries were probably present before they got to college and were aggravated in college, not caused there. He also said that with laproscopy, the surgeries were not as bad as they once were. The success rate is a lot higher now than when Tommy John had his.
thats good to know. but it is still a long recovery time and is something that could end a kids career. or substantially diminish it. hopefully it is just a freak thing, with three. because i dont ever remember seeing that be the case before.
