Not just in football anymore! http://www.lsu.edu/highlights/2008/08/usnwr_br.html "In the just-released 2009 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges, LSU is ranked in the first tier for “Best National Universities” for the first time. This accomplishment means that the nation now recognizes what we have always known – that LSU is one of America’s best universities. You should all be extremely proud of your university, and of yourselves, for making a difference at this critical point in LSU’s history. This ranking is also proof that LSU’s Flagship Agenda is working. That plan has done what it was designed to do — improve LSU’s stature on a national level. Since the inception of the Flagship Agenda in 2003, the university has recruited top-quality students and hired many outstanding faculty members. In addition, LSU’s graduation rates, freshman ACT scores and faculty-to-student-ratio have all improved."
Or booze? This does make me happy to hear but I think LSU's reputation as a partying school just got bonged!
Yay, we're #130 out of 130 to be classified as Tier 1. As mentioned in the link though, the big deal is the Tier 1 status. Definitely great to see!
Apparently, they combined Tier 1 & 2 this year, so we're essentially just tier 2... that's dissapointing, but it is progress.

well, i guess that's what $750 million will get ya. Although I was looking for a little more improvement for that kind of investment. But i guess you gotta start somewhere. "In the past four years, LSU’s graduation rate has risen from 57.5 percent in 2004 to 59.8 percent in 2007. Incoming freshmen ACT scores have increased from an average of 24.5 in 2004 to 25.3 in 2007, while the university’s faculty/student ratio decreased from 22/1 in 2004 to 20/1 in 2007." "In its report, the magazine ranks LSU 130th among 262 American public and private universities in the United States. LSU ranks 67th when compared to public universities only." That 25.3 average ACT score kind of suprised me though.
They were making progress by not only adding students, but quality students. Attracting OOS students with nice scholarships is how you start...but I hated reading (on here somewhere) they were going to be lowering the enrollment.
When I was applying for grad school many years ago my degree from LSU was not looked upon favorably. I had a hard time getting accepted to the schools I wanted but that has changed. It shows we have come a long way but to be in the bottom 3 of the SEC is still quite disappointing. Tier 1 or not (or is it really 2?), the administration still has a long way to go. IMHO we should be no less than middle of the pack in the SEC. $750M sure didnt get us very far.
