Facts are often ignored. Saban is a relevant topic, but a topic many people have trouble talking about with honesty. Yeah, I refuse to believe that LSU can't do what Bama is doing. Which is why I bring up theories on why LSU ISNT doing what Bama is. This shouldn't be a taboo subject, but I guess it makes people unhappy to think on it too hard. I have given credit and kudos, but there are plenty of others doing that. I'm a contrarian. I was pumping sunshine in the aftermath of the Arkansas game. I've been chewing over Miles' 10 years with little output in the passing game, not one rebuilding season. I've yet to see a good explanation for it. That we dont have a QB better prepared this year is a failure. I'm hopeful that this is a blip and Cameron is moving us in the right direction, but that requires faith because history doesn't support it. I love being disagreed with, when folks are being straight up. I'm not trying to win an argument, I'm trying to get at the truth. I feel like I have to fight with you to get closer to the truth because you keep twisting and flipping trying to win the battle. Disagreements can lead to a purer truth, if done correctly. Last I checked Bama isn't an illusion. They're whipping our tail on the field, recruiting trail, and stockpiling trophies. Even if you choose to ignore them or say they don't matter, they are there and they matter. We're falling into second, and the rest of the west is nipping at our heels. Hasnt AU matched or bettered our output now?
We'll see, you never know year to year. I seem to remember after A&M kicked USCe, in the first game, they were thought to be the best team in the SEC. An after LSU lost to barn, many said we wouldn't win another game. Guess how a season plays out? Last year we beat barn bad, took the foot off the gas in the second half, an how did they end their season?
I'm not going so far as to say the sky is falling. But The facts are when Miles took over lsu was on top of the sec west. Since then, Alabama blew by us, Auburn has caught us, and the rest of the guys are rising. We are not in a bubble and the performance of other teams directly affects our standing. we need a big 2015 or we'll be hurting. just talking about relative positioning since miles took over. are we better or worse positioned than we were when miles took over? At this point, you have to say worse. Do we need to win a nc next year to reverse course? Probably not, but if we get bumped relatively early like we've done the past few years, not a good sign.
Curious what your opinion of Saban was when he was here. Are you a Miles man or were you defending the LSU coach from critics when Saban filled the roll? If the later is true, I guess we'd have been on opposite sides of the argument, except that my position hasn't changed that much. I was a critical fan of Saban, and now I'm a critical fan of Miles, maybe a lil more critical of Miles. Shouldn't have to argue the status of the program when Saban left...
I thought Saban was a potential great coach...who 1) was doing a lot to lift the LSU program to the top but was still uneven....note his teams' performances (both between and within seasons) were more uneven than we have seen from Les's 2) was going to the pros as soon as he could so there wasn't much use investing much emotional attachment in him though I appreciated what he had accomplished 3) was stubborn and too conservative on offense 4) was an ass and a douche but our douche I never blamed him for leaving or going to gumpland as both moves were understandable. However as noted above it was obvious he is a douche and that makes it easy to dislike him now as he is at our nemesis.
yeah, so are we better or worse as a program now than before or the same. im not even sure anymore. i just know the offense doesnt have to always suck. but it does.
It didn't suck last year, it didn't suck in 05, 06, or 07 (except against Auburn and Florida at times).
