LE SR Kendrick Adams, SO Sam Montgomery, JR Lavar Edwards, FR Ego Ferguson DT FR Anthony Johnson, SO Chris Davenport, FR Mickey Johnson DT SO Michael Brockers, JR Josh Downs, SO Benny Logan RE JR Chancey Aghayere, SO Barkevious Mingo, FR Maclin, FR Jermauria Rasco/FR Jordan Allen All of our recruited D-linemen will have a shot at playing time as true freshmen. If Montgomery fully recovers, that 3 deep at DE is especially sick.
The one that WOULD'VE concerned me is DT, but with Freak coming in, and having spring and fall practices, I'm not worried about it anymore. The rest is awfully impressive, to say the least...and I'm not trying to downplay MJ or CD, just unsure of how they'll pan out.
2 questions I had when I did the list are: 1) Was Ego redshirted? I believe so. 2) Is Maclin still going to be considered at DE, when we have too many already and there are more pressing needs at LB?
This is the year for Davenport to show something or his career at LSU could easily end up a huge disappointment (ala Woods).
That's why that position concerned me. A lot of people have given up on Davenport, but I continue to hope he's just waiting to bust out. He really does need to do it this year, or else he'll get buried on the depth chart. In some discussions I've had recently about making room for this class, (we still need to 'create' seven positions somehow), some were even hinting that Davenport would lose his scholly. I doubt that's the case, but that it's even a possibility is ridiculous, considering the hype with which he came to LSU.
Can anyone elaborate on what the deal is with Davenport? I remember when he was recruited. 5-star with everyone drooling and calling him the next Glen Dorsey. Looking at his HS stats and info makes me really wonder what happened. Should be a 6'4" 310lbs beast. Also, heard alot of good stuff about Downs and Bennie Logan, too. Actually, can anyone give me a good rundown of each individual on our DLine.......
Ego was moved back to DE toward the end of the season and redshirted las year. Maclin will likely stay at DE. I would be surprised if he ever plays LB at LSU. Davenport came into LSU with an injury and gained some weight during the rehab. Missed a year or more of ball and behind the curve in the weight room. This is the time for him to start coming into his own if it is going to happen. Hopefully he doesn't have anymore setbacks. Downs has been injury prone but very aggressive when healthy. Doesn't have an off switch which is great but might hurt him some with the injuries.
Its a shame that Maclin moved. I was soooo stoked when we pulled him from Tenn. A top notch LB with great size. Did he get too slow? You would think that if not, with all our depth on the line that we'd put him where he's needed...........LB.
