Is there the feeling that Jefferson is familiar enough with that kind of complex offense to run it effectively, given his limited game experience? As long as Crowton's been here I don't know if I've ever seen LSU truly run a spread offense aside from the occasional gimmick play.
It won't be a pure spread, but there will be a lot of shotgun, 3-4 WR sets. A lot of single-back 3-4 WR sets, etc... They feel like they have a ton of weapons and that the more of them out there at a time, the better.
Ah, definitely the kind of sets I like to see. 4 wideouts and a single RB. Delayed handoffs, end arounds, bubble screens, etc. Oh the possibilities. Give me that any day over a 2 TE and a RB/FB formation.
Crowton has stated that he never had an offense withthe kind of running backs that LSU has before. He'd be a fool not to take advantage of it. Even with the spread, a passing game can be defended if there is no legitimate running threat. And vice versa.
A good season. It's his last chance to make an impact. I also expect him to get the ball more. Scott was a bit overworked last year and his production dropped off late in the season. If I were coach, I'd reduce his carries a bit to keep him fresh and also preserve him from needless injury in his senior year. A 1,000-yard rusher is nice, but three 800-yard rushers is even better. Williams needs to hit the hole better inside. He tends to run into the pile and fall down. Now, when he gets a crease to the outside . . . he's gone. A mobile running quarterback to defend against may give him more of those creases.
Now he's the kind of speedy back that would work well in a spread. I just hope he's learned how to recognize holes in the gaps and bust through them.
I expect his performance this season will be similar to last, maybe a little better. It's going to be hard for him to have a breakout year if Scott is anything like what he was last season, which from what I've been told, he is... and then some. It'll be fun to watch, that's for sure. :tigereye:
Well you have to consider Destrehan ran a spread offense when he was there. I know it's not as complex as one Crowton would run, but it's not like we'll run a full-time spread. He ran that spread to perfection in a very tough 5A and arguably the state's toughest district and played some good competition. I know it's not SEC level, but it's the highest level of high school football available to a kid in Louisiana, so if he raises his game accordingly, he should be fine. I was really worried about him locking on to receivers because he spent a lot of time locking on to Molton but he impressed me with his ability to go through his progressions. He clearly understands the concept of controlling the ball on offense.
Thats about what Im thinking. However, I think he will do better if Crowton doesnt become predictable. If Scott is in the game, you know whats the objective in the running game. If Williams is in the game, its a pitch, screen, or option run. That happened alot last year. I hope it changes this year and I hope Keiland comes to play this year like he did at the end of the season.
