I really don't understand why people can't see the BCS for what it is. It's a scheduling mechanism. The entity that recognizes the "championship" is the same as before. It's the Coaches Poll. When LSU beats Bama next week, they will be the #1 ranked team in the Coaches Poll and get the Coaches Poll trophy. Personally, I think the AP should exist as a protest until we get an actual championship tournament which is where this needs to go. The BCS is crap. I don't agree that it's any better than before. Before, you might have two or three bowl games which could matter with regard to the MNC. Now you only have one game and the rest are exhibitions.
You'll find that the ones saying they refuse to recognize an ap as a NC, are the ones that have issues with accepting life as it really is. Life is one big denial after another. But hey, live and let live.
fail Here's a link to the AFCA website...they know these things. >AFCA Coaches' National Championship Trophy< And if you think they're the sponsor-lmao- you need to also read this. As you can see, it's been that way since many many sponsors have "sponsored" it. It becomes relevant when you say the AP did not produce a champion that anyone was happy with.
In some years, sure. But people were tired of so many split championships because the AP has never been the only respected poll. The Coaches Poll, whether it was the old UPI or any of it's later sponsors, quite often conflicted with the AP. The whole ides of the BCS was to eliminate a split championship. It has worked.
So you lose the national championship game, and get awarded a national championship trophy by another set of people, and those of us who think that's a garbage trophy are the ones who have a tough time dealing with reality??? Wow.... I don't want to be the team (bama, usc) that is given something that wasn't won on the field. Every team and every player plays for their conference championship, and then the BCS championship. That is the goal, give me an instance where you heard coaches or players saying, man I sure hope we win that AP trophy this year.
It's a honor, not a garbage trophy . . . but it is not a national championship unless you also win the National Championship Game.
