Actually, the AP and the UPI (Coach's) polls were both big in the 50's and 60's. Because it was the Coach's poll, it was highly respected in some parts of the country. The UPI stopped it's ratings in the 70's but the USA Today reinstituted the Coach's poll in the early 90's. Besides, it's academic. LSU should win going away.:crystal::crystal::crystal:
It's not a split National Title, it is two seperate National Titles. One is recognized by the BCS system to which we all belong as THE BCS National Champion. The AP gives it's trophy and championship to whomever it wants. Sort of like the Oscars and the Writer's Guild Award. Both are awards but the Academy bestows the big boy. If Bama wins on the 9th and the AP awards LSU its trophy, that's great but it won't be a split championship. Bama would be THE BCS National Champion, LSU would be the AP National Champion. Two separate things. Nothing is split. That was my problem in 2003. Everyone kept saying USc and LSU were co-champions. Not so. Won't be so this year either.
One FINAL question for you?? Has Every Coach and every AD sighned on and agreed to adhere to the BCS rankings or the AP rankings?? CASE CLOSED!!
 They are the sponsor. It once read "The Sears Trophy". The BCS was an improvement over the chaos before. Whether it will be improved agin is irrelevant.
