Where's Ryan Perrilloux from? Also, other top schools do the same. Greg McElroy isn't from Alabama...but he plays there on TV. Josh Booty was a better QB than his little brother...he just had baseball on his mind...and when he finally got to LSU, he hadn't played football in years.
Reading this Forum I clicked over to Scout & checked on LSU quarterback prospects for 2011 & found that the top rated guys that LSU has offered are all from out of state. The first quarterbacks from Louisiana on the list start at number 14 with three one star kids named - Daniels, Douglas & Ensminger. That really don't say much for Louisiana High School Quarterbacks. What about the kid from CHS BR? I thought he was highly thought of or is he just a junior? Went to Rivals & found Zack Oliver (CHS) listed third & Dak Prescott of Haughton listed sixth but Rivals has no rankings on the players.
I guess sometimes La. has an elite high school QB come out, and sometimes we don't, which is like everyone else.
Maybe it has more to do with the education system. Louisiana is always in the bottom two there. I think we are so good at producing skill guys, because the High school coaches here can easily find the best athlete and hand him the ball. Teaching those kids to play quarterback is another story. I'm not saying this is it, just bringing up a point.
I don't remember the coach from the Shreveport High School - he coached at two schools - Bradshaw, Ferguson, Woodley and Stan Humphries were all developed by him. There is another QB to that list and I forget his name. He was at LSU, too. It appears it maybe lack of QB coaches.
A L Williams was the coach at Woodlawn HS in Shreveport where he coached Joe Ferguson and Terry Bradshaw and David Woodley, then went to Northwestern and coached Bobby Hebert
Why does Josh Booty not count? To address your point that LA HS's are not developing QB's, I can think of several off the top of my head: Paton Manning Eli Manning Josh Booty John David Booty Ryan Perrilloux Just because they didn't go to LSU or make it in the NFL does not mean LA HS football has not been able to develop highly sought after QB's in the last 15 years.
Josh Booty, just like JR and Nall, did nothing to live up to HS reputaion until Fisher came aboard. Each one of those guys could have been special with good coaching. After Fisher left, we have had one good year of adequate play from our Quarterbacks
:geaux: Since several posts in this thread mentioned 7on 7 Fooball Tournaments, I thought I'd just add this info to the thread instead of starting a new one. The La. College Athletics site, lcwildcats.net, had an article today announcing LC's 5th Annual Air Attack Challenge 7 on 7 Football Tournament. Tournament will feature and be open to teams from La. & Ark., although no specific teams were mentioned as of yet. Tournament will be held on June 11 & 12 at La. College's Wildcat Stadium with the tournament winner recieveing an automatic berth in the National 7 on 7 Tournament in Hoover, AL. later on. Entry fee per team is $300. LC Coach Dennis Dunn will be the host and be in charge of the tournament. Anxious to see what teams show up for this. It's been pretty good the last several years and I'm pretty sure Evangel & ASH have been regular participants and both have been to Hoover. Should be some good talent on display. :LSU231:
David Woodley, Stan Humpheys, Bubb Brister, Patrick Ramsey, James Harris, Forcade, and others........
