Summer 7 on 7 football is credited with helping develop High School quarterbacks in Texas. Does Louisiana have the same 7 on 7 program? ESPN.com - Offenses exploding with 7-on-7 competition in Texas
I believe we do hold a 7-on-7 held at LSU every year but hasn't been publicized much. I think they do it during the Nike Combine which will be in mid April this year.
:geaux: Yes, they do have it at LSU and other locations and have for the last several years. Quite a number of teams take part. Evangel does for sure and Alexandria (ASH) does from my local area. Maybe some other folks can provide some more details. :LSU231:
There are just so many good QBs that come out of Texas every year, and there aren't enough big time schools in Texas to claim them all. For the 2010 class, there were 9 QBs on the Texas top 100 list, and 4 BCS schools in the state. That has worked out in our favor, as quite a few of those guys have ended up at LSU over the years.
We were looking more at recent history, and La. QBs who actually ended up playing at LSU. Josh Booty doesn't count for obvious reasons.
Well you said your friend thought that there was a problem with the HS system in Louisiana and the lack of QB development at that level. I don't see it. He was an All-SEC LSU quarterback who played in the NFL. Sorry, I just think Louisiana produces as many college quarterbacks per capita as anybody and that it hasn't changed much over time either. I think our problem in recent years is Ryan Perrilloux flaking out on us. His HS-All American status scared off other top quarterbacks from signing so his departure left us with nothing but green quarterbacks to throw in. This is a common problem with highly-touted recruits. John Booty and Peyton Manning both graduated in Louisiana in the same year and both were recruited by LSU. But the two 5-stars agreed early that they would not both be attending the same school and hurt each others prospects to start, so when Booty committed early, we were done with Manning.
Josh Booty had one good, but not great, season before taking off for the NFL in the 6th round of the draft, but fair enough. OK, I can see this.
In my opinion, there is definately not a lack of talent on the QB side or developing a QB in the state of LA. Reasons I will give is just take a look at the top level (Professional) and all of the QB's that have either been to a SuperBowl or Won a Superbowl. Where do i start, Terry Bradshaw 4 superbowls, Doug Williams, Peyton Manning (2), Eli Manning, Jake Delhomme, David Woodley, Stan Humprhries, and if you want to throw Brett Favre and Steve McNair from nearby MS you can. La Qb's have been in 11 of 44 SuperBowls. That's 25% coming from LA. I don't thing it's having or developing talent that is the problem, it's recognizing it. ONLY ONE Stan Humpries attended and signed with LSU out of high school, but ended up transferring to Northeast LA (now ULM).
