are you really the person to castigate another poster for talking about high school accolades and star ranking?
I keep up with the stats on football recruiting as a service to the TF family. It's not something I have to do, but I like to do. I have never said it was the end all to predicting how well a kid will do on the collegiate level. So don't get it twisted. As a side note, nice use of the word 'castigate".
Yes, I hope with all my heart the light comes on for him. But he is a junior now. We're past the learning curve. And no Loston isn't ready to dominate at safety. That's definitely not what I am saying. What I am saying is that if Jones' level of play can't get any better than this, a raw Loston would be a better solution. That's how badly Chad Jones is playing right now and has ever since September of 2008.
and I am very happy that you, along with the others, do keep up with the recruiting stuff so I don't have to hunt it down. Thank you. However, i just found it a bit strange that you would say that Chad Jones' star rankings and high school accolades means nothing when you are clamoring for Loston, Randle, and Shepard to play immediately based on nothing but star rankings and high school accolades. Do i think Loston will be a special player? Yes, I think he will end up being a Laron Landy type. But he missed all of summer practice and most of fall practice because he wasn't cleared to play so I don't think we should just throw him out there and just forgetting about Chad Jones who has gone through fall practice and summer practice and spring practice. Did Jones have a bad game Saturday? Yes, he did but everyone has an off game. Give the man a game or two to get his bearings and I think he will end up all-sec by the end of the year.
He played all of last season and looked pretty much identical to what he looked like Saturday night. This isn't a new thing. I again hope against all hope that he turns this around and that light comes on.
I guess that my main point I am trying to make is Loston being out of position on the field due to inexperience would be nothing worse than Chad Jones just the same due to poor football instincts. But at least we would get Loston cracking some bones out on that field. That's more than we can say about Jones at this point.
I understand, I do but remember last year about the 3rd Lee pick six nearly EVERYONE wanted JJ in and THEN. Was JJ ready, I doubt it as I am sure the coaching staff doubted it as well. Perhaps not a perfect scenario but I buy into what red said and that is it is loston's job to take. If it is a blue moons wait otherwise, then what is the difference? I believe that by week 5 if there is a status quo, and that means loston will have to improve to be as good as Jones sucks, you may just get your wish.
Chavis wasn't here last year. He's going by what he's seen in the fall practices. He's starting Jones. Loston is not ready. Jones is the better option right now.
Seems to me that we're awfully quick to throw Chad under the bus. He was ferocious last year - maybe he just needs some game experience to operate with confidence in his new job. I think he'll be fine - and I'm not ready to say he doesn't have good football instincts. Of course, that's only my opinion. There are probably more knowledgeable football minds on this board. But I like the guy and think we should just reserve judgment for a couple of weeks. :geaux:
