His response to the LSU fanbase was essentially to go pound sand and stop emailing me. Unfortunately the only way to express displeasure with him is to stop supporting our team.
Well, he's right. The unusual schedule with 6 home games plus a #1 ranking means national TV, and CBS gets first bite at that apple.
So Alleva could of said a couple of things. 1. Just tell us what we already know (as you stated). Essentially saying that's the way it is live with it. Which was my point. 2. Tell us what we already know but then go on to discuss remedies for the future. Example: He could have said something like, "When the current TV contracts comes up for bid in 20xx then I will work with the SEC to try an negotiate a deal to guarantee a minimum of 2 SEC night games per season" Or more CBS prime time spots, or sell the first pick rights to ESPN, any of hundreds of possible scenarios that would allow the conference to continue to pull in big time TV money and still maintain traditions. What Alleva said was akin your landlord telling you, "That water on your floor is there because your pipe is broken. Nothing I can do about that."
let the tail wag the dog. ask and ye shall receive. guaranteed night game next year in TS. A Letter From Joe Alleva Published: October 24, 2011, 02:27 PM (CT) by LSUsports.net Dear Tiger Fan, Thank you to everyone who took time to respond last week to my letter about televised football games. ................... So I am happy to inform you that, during the discussions pertaining to the move of the LSU-Alabama game on November 5 in Tuscaloosa to a night time kickoff, CBS committed its primetime telecast for next year by selecting the LSU vs. Alabama game at night in Tiger Stadium on CBS. Geaux Tigers! Joe Alleva Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics A Letter From Joe Alleva - LSUsports.net - The Official Web Site of LSU Tigers Athletics
Yes Tiger Stadium Is great on a Saturday Night. That being said, Saturday was a lot of fun. I will take National Championships and Television coverage over Curley Hallman night games. This kind of exposure is great for recruiting. It is no coincidence that this team is so good after a National Championship. Teams always get extra top recruits after a national championship, which brings more trophies. I think this tradition out weights the night tradition. The Team is having fun and it shows on the coverage. The coach is having fun and it is showing too. Asked yourself where do you think an 18 year old would like to play. I think it is winning titles and having fun. Having fun is better than stressing out like in T-town. It’s all good. Build new traditions!!!
ESPN will be the little bitches and won't let them. I think it is funny that Aleva is basically saying they fought for the primetime game next year. I am sure you really had to pull their arm hard to pick a game they were already going to take. :insane:
Considering that they managed to find a way to not take the LSU v Bama game this year, I don't think you can consider this a given.
