Well unless lids are being kept very very tight, the language of these two coaches does not bode well for the future defenses on LSU football.
Les has got to move quickly. He's got to know that if his defense disappoints in 2009, he is done at LSU.
Islstl posted this in the Vic Koenning thread saying that LSU and our Athletic Department is on top of it:
Well what I posted just came out in the Shreveport times, so apparently sometime fairly recent, within a day or so i'd imagine... he was quoted as saying what I put in print. Not saying that i'm right or someone else isn't... but both coaches both said there doesn't appear to be a vacancy at LSU at this moment. And if that's true then we may lose the 2 best choices to take over the DC spot and be stuck with what we currently have.
For all we know, LSU told them that they want to keep it hush-hush that we are firing our co-DCs. Look at Vic's quote: "But I'm not aware of any jobs over there. I'm for coaches. I wish none of us would get fired. I've got friends on that staff" Maybe he is saying exactly what we told him we would like him to say if he was contacted by the media during this time. I mean say LSU is negotiating with Vic and Chavis right now -- we are negotiating how much we are willing to pay them etc -- all that stuff -- going back-and-forth. It wouldn't be surprising if during this time, LSU told them to publically act like their is no opening at LSU, in case the negotiations fall through, or in case they end up deciding not to come to LSU. LSU has not made any annoucement regarding Mallveto, so of course we don't want coaches we are possibly interviewing leaking it to the media if we are indeed negotiating with replacements.
Also, keep in mind that the article is written by Glenn Guilbeau, who loves stirring stuff up. For example, when it came to how they choose to cover the recent presser that Miles had: GG's headline was "No shift on LSU's Defense." The Advocate headline was "Miles Not Talking about LSU staff changes." The Times Picayune headlines were "Adjustments to be made soon by Miles" and "LSU football likely to see changes soon." Regarding this recent news of Vic's quote, the Advocate put it like this: "The 47-year-old Koennig chose his words carefully, pointing out that as of right now, there are no openings on Miles’ staff." Also, the Advocate article didn't include any personal opinions like GG did when he wrote: "LSU football coach Les Miles has likely not moved fast enough to hire two of the nation's hottest defensive coordinators." http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/35531024.html
Vic contradicts himself. Acts like he hasn't heard from LSU, but then syas this. Sounds to me like he has been contacted (possibly negotiating), but neither side is saying sh!t until everything is final.
From Tiger Gumbo this morning... If this article is true than I would rank the choices as follows: 1. T. Nix (our best chance at aggressive LSU D IMO) 2. J. Chavis 3. D. Walker 4. V. Koennig (I am sorry but he sounds like Pelini Jr., but he would still be a BIG improvement) Orgeron with any of the above is lagniappe!
