Looks like DeAndre WILL be a Golden Eagle

Skills players, mainly, can expose themselves quicker at a level like Southern Miss'. Scouts know about these guys before you even see them on Sportscenter for the first time. Look at the Senior Bowl. Think all of those small school guys that did incredible got there by accident? No, scouts recommended them a year ago. The reason LSU and schools crank out more NFL guys is obviously because they recruit better. But if you have talent and play college ball, you will get noticed. I am pretty sure especially in this case Brown will shine next year where as if he made it to LSU there would be no guarantees he would start and he would have two less years to develop. This is really an easy concept.

Does this not contradict the notion that he would be better off at LSU?

Our WR Class for next year could be Ruben Randle, Kenny Bell, then go after OOS WR like Marlon Brown, Dion Sims, Willie Downs,Kraig Appleton and Willie Jefferson. One key that may help is landing QB Russell Shepard.

If I believed that then I wouldn't be posting here. Of course LSU offers better oportunities, but if a player is talented enough then it will basically not matter where he goes, scouts will find him...Do you know why he chose USM??? SO your problem seems to be where he's drafted, not what he actually accomplishes once he's drafted...Being at LSU does not guarantee a first round pick neither...That's his choice, if he believes it is the right one, then it is what it is, good for him.

I agree, if he feels he's that good and wants to play right away then it's not a bad decision for him

    Exactly right!!!

Patrick Johnson has academic baggage, showed a serious lack of integrity with his recruiting, and displayed a thought process that would confound just about any head coach. Is it only different because he selected LSU?

The bottom line with these kids is they believe they are making the right decision for themselves and often with the strong encouragement of a parent. It may make no sense to anyone other than them but it doesn't have to. It's a lot of pressure to deal with at that age.

I wouldn't say academic baggage he is enrolling on time as a normal senior just not early dont see how that is baggage? Also how did he show a serious lack of integrity? Is this because he didnt select USC?

I agree that he could've handled his recruitment much better, but the guy seems to be a hard worker in the classroom. After his high school suspension he really buckled down.

He had some academic issues in HS and that's what I was referring to. He made some comments during the recruiting process that might have been misleading but not lacking in integrity. I apologize for having said so. PJ will have a great career and will be featured in MANY highlight reels.
