cornerbacks. That is, if you believe that the roster listed on LSUsports.net knows what it's talking about. http://www.lsusports.net/SportSelec...164&DB_OEM_ID=5200&SORT_ORDER=2&Q_SEASON=2007 I was kind of hoping either or both would be wide receivers, but I guess the coaches must feel really good about the wide receiver depth not to include them in it.
I hear John Williams will be a great kick and punt returner for LSU one day. I expect to see him play some special teams this year.
He'll have a lot of competition. Jai Eugene Trindon Holliday John Williams Ron Brooks All of those guys (4 of them freshmen this year) are supposed to be killer return men.
Yes I am aware of all the athletes we have for returns. Jai Eugene will get his shot before Williams. Trindon will be back there every kick for as long as he is a Tiger. Well unless he has a case of the drops. I think it was unfair how Trindon was given the lable as a guy who drops punts after missing his 1st and only punt attempt last year.
I think both will get some looks at other positions before their careers are over, but both were recruited for CB...although I think we told Brooks we liked him at WR too. Maybe that was all recruiting talk.
I wouldn't put too much stock in where any of them are lining up in only their 3rd day of practice in, what is, their true freshman season. Lots of things can happen before all is said and done. The way I look at it, is that with Byrd, LaFell, Doucet, Toliver, Chris and Jared Mitchell, Trindon and Ricky Dixon, the depth is pretty well stocked for '07. Also consider that RJ Jackson will also likely lineup at WR at times this season. But our DB's--specifically CB needs to find some depth too because after Jackson and Zenon, the depth of true corners could have gotten real thin. But with Jai, Williams, Phelon Jones and Ron Brooks helping out, we created some nice depth. ...remeber, in 2000, Davery Henderson lined up in the backfield as a RUNNING BACK yet finished his career as a WR, so while '07 may prove to be a year that Williams and Brooks can better help THE TEAM is on defense, then we have to go with that....same thing goes for Barksdale starting the year on the O-line. I mean, he was a Blue-chip DT...but if he gets to shore up some loose ends on the O-line until we build up depth, then so be it.
