It's far from a slam dunk that Bernie Sanders' voters will simply fall in line and vote for Hillary. Plenty are threatening to sit this one out if he doesn't win the nomination. What is energizing the Bernie people are the same as what is driving the Trump support. Disenfranchisement, anti-establishment, etc. A good portion of these people do not like Hillary vs merely liking Bernie.

So for those who say Trump has no chance in the general, consider some of the Sanders support going over to Trump , some sitting home and not voting Democrat and add in the record numbers of people coming out to the Republican primaries/caucuses (highest turnout since 1980) , you've got yourself a real race for the Presidency.

Yes Trump has unfavorables the likes we've never seen (although Hillary is not too far behind on that front) and has virtually zero support from black voters as well as very low support from Latino voters. It's an uphill climb. So the question remains, do enough angered white people come out to vote and elect him President? Does Hillary energize the Black and Latino vote enough to prevent that from happening?

Doing the math and working with easy numbers:

    White 70 %
    Black/Latino 30 %

Let's say they come out to vote proportionately. If Trump were to get only 10 % of the Black and Latino vote, that would mean he would have to get nearly 70 percent of the white vote, a more than daunting task (bordering on impossible).

Now let's say the white voters come out at a substantially higher rate than Black/Latino people:

    White 85 %
    Black/Latino 15 %

Using that same formula of 10 % Black/Latino vote going to Trump, he would have to win "only" a little more than 57 % of the white vote, a doable number (not easy, but doable).

    Pretty much.

Wouldn't it be something if they pulled that off?

He's an independent. Trump allegedly isn't a true conservative (and let's face it, he is nowhere close to a true conservative). They easily beat Hillary.

This doesn't seem realistic at all to me. I can't imagine this has happened any time in recent history and with the demographics in the electorate trending the opposite direction, I would think it would border along impossible.

Trump has a legit better shot than anyone. Thats why this shit is still brokered. The gop is trying to tell us who they want and making a mockery of the process. which is why fox changed their rules to have 4 on the next debate. So we can have more of this shit instead of having cruz and trump go head to head. rubio will likely stay in to keep it this way.

The gop can't make a mockery of the process, because they are free to choose anyone they want, however they want. They could take all the votes and burn them and nominate josh booty if they wanted. The "process" is whatever they want.

Still not a mockery of anything. Parties are not democracies. They could be religious theocracies if they wanted.
