Ok, some have said, and even Shep has said that GC has some plays that they are holing close to the vest. If this is true, wouldn’t WVU game be the game to unleash the madness? I understand the play calling last night, while I DON’T AGREE with it, I understand what they are trying to do with JJ. It is clear that they want him to be our guy and it is time we accept that. Unless he has a mental break down, which he wont, JJ will start every game pending injuries. With that being said, even though his stats weren’t good, he showed tremendous improvement over the Vandy game against a better D. One thing I noticed, is that after a team scores on us, our play calling changes. WHY? That scoring drive right after State scored was PERFECTION>> Does GC have this little black book he pulls out for emergency’s? Drives like that one really show me promises of what this team is capable of and I believe it shows all of you too. I think this is why fans get so upset when we turn around on the next drive and have RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN… What are yalls opinions and takes on this subject?
I don't think they are holding much back. The guys are playing as hard as they can and look like they are getting better each game.
I sure hope we have something we aren't showing. If we have some kind of wildcat package, we need to allow the players time to get comfortable with it. I would like to have already have done that. I feel we should have a wildcat package and show the threat of Shep throwing a pass, not wait and try to suprise a team with it. If we show it against WV, then IMO it gives the SEC defenses one more thing to worry about.
I said this last night but will repeat it, our team is as good as our coaches will let them be. When they let 'em go, they take off. We saw this, somewhat, last night in the second half.
I think the coaches are holding the players (offense) back a bit but I have a little different take. I don't see our offense as some blooded stallion waiting to take off and dominate the field in every game, despite out talent. Instead I see a rather inconsistent, but potentially dangerous offense. While the coaches are certainly holding them back, they just may be making them play within their capabilities. Being able to hit 1-2 three pointers does not mean the next game you come out and launch 30/game. Looks like they are bringing them along pretty slowly (too slow for most fans), trying to limit mistakes, penalties, keep the chains moving, eat clock, establish control of the line, and score. Style points and airing it out just has not been necessary yet. Hopefully we will have developed a bit more by the time it is needed. Perhaps I am just eternally optimistic, but I see more purpose behind the limitations than just trying to disappoint the fans.
great post! this is exactly as i see it. the staff knows that we should be 5-0 or 5-1 when we meet florida -- even by showing very little offense. they know that our most important games are all bunched together at the end and are trying to bring them along slowly. i think we'll be OK.
