There is no doubt RP was a huge pick-up for the 2005 class--not just that, but he was the gem, the pride of the 2005 class. Any program would have taken him (in fact Mack Brown's Texas thought they had him after he committed to them). Both Rivals and Scout agreed that, along with Mark Sanchez, he was the greatest QB recruit in the nation. LSU has never gotten a QB recruit that great, not even JR was that highly-touted (although Shep is pretty similar). RP's high school football coach loved RP and defended his character over and over during the whole fiasco where all the sportswriters in Louisiana heavily publicized RP's behavior and called for his head because they thought he was some sort of thug that made the whole world think we were Thug-U like Miami. RP went to JSU were the coach had just kicked his star QB off the team for criminal behavior (without having ANY back-up QBs except for incoming true freshman). Before RP showed up at JSU, JSU's coach said he wasn't sure what to expect, and now he praises RP's character. And speaking of Mark Sanchez of the same recruiting class as RP, Sanchez was arrested (went to jail, had a judge listen to the evidence and require him to post $200,000 if he wanted to go back on the streets while awaiting his trial) after a USC student accused him of sexual assaulting her in his apartment across the street from campus, he was disciplined for underage drinking, he was disciplined for using fake identification, and he was disciplined after campus police detained him after he allegely broke a window at a party. Regardless of RP, what do y'all think of the rest of the 2005 recruiting class?
All of which is slacker behavior. Perrilloux was never jailed once. Jail is where you find the thugs.
Very solid class, even for a small one, it was actually extremely good. If you project what Perrilloux would have been able to accomplish had he kept his head on straight, this would have been one of the best small classes ever.
It doesnt make RP any less of a thug that he had people cover it up for him and the other guy didnt. Is he a lucky thug? Sure. As for him being a bust -- he was a very good player and he played a large role in us winning the NC last year.
[Is he a lucky thug? Sure. As for him being a bust -- he was a very good player and he played a large role in us winning the NC last year.[/quote] I agree with the above. He also hurt our program this year and possibly in future years because we may have missed out on a top notch QB recruit if he hadn't been here that would have gained more experience. Him not being here or a suitable replacement, cost us some wins. Do not underestimate the toll our inability to move the ball took on the morale of our defense, not to mention how long it was on the field. I'm not saying the defense was good, it wasn't, but it is amazing what a difference in attitude can do. Just look at the Bama game where the defense played well enough to win.
If he wasn't a QB for a big program, he would be in jail. :insane: The rest of us aren't as privileged. This is my point. RP could've been our starter this year and we could quite conceivably have had another NC run in '09 with him as a much improved senior. Realistically, we may have to wait another couple of years until our QBs are old/experienced enough to make another NC run. So, maybe RP wasn't a total bust, but I still say he was a bust.
A wild-ass guess, of course. The only time he was arrested, at the casino, was a summons . . . a ticket. "Thug" suggests violent crime and Perrilliux problem wasn't that. His problem was ducking team rules, ducking class, riding around with his homies after midnight, and stupidly putting his street cred above his football career.
Are you saying that money doesn't make a difference in one's status because of you are, I'd like to know what planet you live on.
