I read through an article earlier saying that LSU extended its streak being ranked in both the AP and USA today polls to 86 consecutive weeks. It made me wonder who owns the current longest streak, i imagine ours is up near the top, i tried googling but couldn't really find anything on it. I would guess USC, OU, Texas, Ohio State would be the only other teams really close. Also came across this article: http://shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080921/SPORTS/80921013/1001/SPORTS I am 99% sure that LSU has the current longest streak of being ranked in the top 10 of both polls at 26 straight weeks, which is pretty damned impressive if you ask me :geaux: I looked at the final poll from last year as a guide to see, I looked at Ohio State, USC, OU, Georgia, and Florida. And all of those teams have been ranked outside of the top 10 at least at one point, in at least one of the polls since Nov 12, 2006.
Not sure about the record for Top 25, but I'm pretty sure FSU finished in the Top 5 for something like 14 consecutive years. That's pretty strong.
I might be wrong on this, but I believe Nebraska holds the record for the most consecutive weeks ranked. I think they were ranked in the top 25 for something like 22 years in a row from the 70's through the late 90's.
true dat, i dont think anyone can realistically expect to be ranked for 22 years straight in this age of college football... but you never know.
Georgia currently has the longest SEC streak of being ranked in the top 25. 11 consecutive years of being ranked in the top 25. I am not sure if Alabama once had a longer top 25 streak.
You must mean top 25 finishes, cause in 06' UGA lost 4 out of 5 games in the middle of the season and dropped out of the top 25.
UGA is not in this conversation. He's talking about consecutive WEEKS in the polls...not year end stuff.
Hey guys, thought I'd jump in and point you here... http://www.appollarchive.com/football/ap/app_streaks_weeks.cfm That should answer your questions. If not, let me know and I'll try and find it for you.
