I just got to see what went down (NBC is rebroadcasting everything for us who couldn't see it earlier today)... and all I can say is WOW!!! LOLO IS A BEAST!!! LOLO WAS DOMINATING THAT RACE UNTIL HER FOOT CLIPPED THAT SECOND-TO-LAST HURDLE!!!!!! Even the announcers were raving about how incredible it was that she could even finish that race the way she did after getting tripped up by the hurdle. LOLO IS A BEAST!!! It was awesome to see that the USA girl who ended up winning the Gold... lack of celebration, lack of party-time, lack of feeling that she deserved it. That's 100% respect for Lolo. LOLO IS A BEAST!!! Sure, the Australian girl that won the silver was going absolutely berserk in joy, and the Canadian girl who won the bronze seemed to be pretty happy as well...but the Gold-winner from the USA was not happy that she was the one that beat her fellow American Lolo, the real hero. As for the comment above about how Lolo was only visually distraught at the end leaning against the wall... from what I just saw -- her foot clipped that 7th hurdle, she somehow makes this incredible effort to finish the race along with the pack, and then falls to the ground in the agony of what she just went through. Then, she stands up, and the camera is on her face, and she is tearing up, about to cry. Then, after showing the footage of the medal winners and how they reacted to their accomplishment, they go up and interview Lolo, who has at this point heroically pulled herself together (she looked flawless) -- and she gave a classy interview which included her saying in the end, with sadness and emotion, that "I mess up twice a year, it just sucks it was on the most important moment of my life." After the interview was over, during the final shot of her, Lolo didn't look as visually distraught as she looked right after the race... instead of being on the verge of tears, she just had a look that said: "man this sucks." So what? And I didn't see how the announcers communicated that: "Lolo, finally alone, mourns..." or whatever. Again, I just finished watching all this, and all I can say is that LOLO IS A BEAST!!! Now what should have irritated me, was that, earlier, the local news was introducing the Lolo highlights by saying something about Lolo and the "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets" song... and then pointing out that that the song was about LOLA, not LOLO, and that LOLO didn't get what she wanted... If I actually thought my local news was worthy enough to actually get upset about, I'd be irritated by that. But my local news is pretty weak, so... that sucks for me that I live in such a poor part of the United States. Anyway, LOLO IS A BEAST!!!!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME PROUD LOLO!!!!
Dude, she was leaning against the wall crying, visibly, which she wasn't doing on the track, though she had collapsed to her knees. Point is, they made a point of saying how she wanted to be alone, while they're staring at her in a tunnel after saying that. she pulled it together for the interview, I thought it was in poor taste for them to invade that privacy (as much as you can get in a stadium full of people and cameras), for blatant ratings mongering.
If you look at the replay, you'll see that Lolo made the fatal mistake of looking up at the video screen after the 8th hurdle, instead of continuing to concentrate on the race until she cleared the last hurdle. Unlike the sprints, where you can afford to celebrate 20-30 meters out once you're clear of your competition, a la Usain Bolt; in the hurdles you can't start celebrating until you've cleared the last hurdle.
