At this point in time, Jessica is more like Lolo's understudy than actual competition. But hopefully, she'll progress her first four years out of college the same way Lolo has.
Lolo is still in the zone!!! Incredible!!! She won her semi-final in the 100m hurdles with a time of 12.43 -- the 3rd-fastest time in Olympic history (behind only the Gold-medal winner at Seoul 1988 and the Gold-medal winner at Athens 2004). None of the other seven that qualified for the final has ever cracked 12.43 in their careers. Give 'em hell in the final, Lolo!!!! Notes of interest: 1. Damu Cherry, also of the USA (Univ of South Florida '00), had the second-best time in the semi-finals at 12.62, compared to Lolo's time of 12.43 (We are talking about tenths of a second here). Cherry's personal best is 12.44 and she claims she is currently battling the flu. Regarding the final, Cherry said: "I'm going to execute my race and see what happens." But she also predicted: "a gold medal for myself." 2. No women's 100-meter hurdler is unbeaten this season, meaning that the final could be a thriller. Even Lolo Jones said: "It's anybody's race." She also admitted to being "nervous," saying: "It's the Olympics." 3. Sweden's Susanna Kallur, one of the top challengers for the Gold, toppled on the first hurdle in her semifinal, tragically crashing into the ground, dashing her chance at making it to the final. Good luck Lolo!!! I hope you bring it home!!!
Bad news for Jones....she stumbled and came in 7th. But, her teammate did manage to win gold for the USA. http://www.nbcolympics.com/trackandfield/news/newsid=235237.html?GT1=39003 I was really looking forward to her getting the gold in that race. She just seemed so happy and eager every time they interviewed her.
Agonizing to watch, very classy in the way she handled it. Thought it was absolutely ridiculous that NBC ends the spot with a shot of her (thinking she was out of view) visibly distraught, then the announcer has the balls to say something like "Lolo, finally alone, mourns the blah blah blah". incredibly insensitive choice of words and timing. or poor taste at the very least.
she definitely handled it with class though, you're absolutely correct on that. i wouldn't want to talk to anyone for a few days after that
