Yeah, Ole Miss looked pretty bad tonight. They just looked out of it from the beginning. That was by far the worst I have ever seen Snead play. He usually looks great. It's hard to win when your QB is playing that bad. But Nutt is kind of notorious for having teams that start off the year sloppy. But I think people are too hard on ole Nutty boy sometimes. A lot of people like to basically talk about how crappy he is, but I don't think he is. He had a very respectable program at Akansas. His teams may be inconsistent, but how many games did Ole Miss win before he got there? All the wins with their previous coach in the three seasons prior = 10 total Wins in first year of Nuttball = 9 That includes a bowl win, Florida's only loss and a total azz whipping of LSU. And they went from dead last in the West to 2nd. The games they did lose they barely lost. Not bad... He always seems to do better when nothing is expected of his team though. That had to be extremely frustrating for their fans, but it is just one game and his teams have a way of really turning it on as the season goes on. They are badly missing that stud on the O-line that went in the first round of the draft. South Carolina is a tough place to play for your first SEC road test. Although I was somewhat shocked at how bad Ole Miss looked on offense, South Carolina does have some talent. I don't know why some people act like Nutt has THAT much more talent than South Carolina. I don't recall people talking about Ole Miss' super talented players when Nutt arrived. I was happy to see the Gamecocks finally win a big one since they usually blow it almost every time. Their D did a good job. Wow...and this post was waaay too long and boring. Oh well...
Sounds like somebody is a die-hard Ole Miss fan. Reality: Arkansas has a much better football program than Ole Miss. Nutt couldn't cut it at Arkansas, so he took a step down/got fired and went to Ole Miss. Nutt is an Arkansas-reject. Ole Miss should be looking for up-and-coming-coaches like they got with Tuberville (who did great at Ole Miss before Auburn snatched him away). Yeah, the Tubervilles might get snatched away from you by the better programs, but that's better than taking the rejects from programs like Arkansas.
Uhhh...I hate Ole Miss...and usually with a passion. I'm pretty sure I'm an LSU fan. Arkansas does have a better program than Ole Miss, but it's not by that much. The biggest difference is that the Hogs have been to the SECCG a few times and Ole Miss has never been. Nutt may be an Arkansas reject, but that doesn't make him a bad coach. After all, I think he is 2nd in all-time wins over there. His teams can be wildly inconsistent and he can boggle your mind with things he does at times, but they did go to 8 bowls for the 10 years he was at Arkansas. I'm just giving the guy some credit. All I know is that the Rebs went from being winless in the SEC before Nutt got there to being ranked in the top 15 when the season was over with a bowl victory. Not too shabby for a reject.
That was thanks to Ed Orgeron...guy is a hell of a recruiter (even awarded National Recruiter of the Year by Sporting News and Rivals.com). I think Ole Miss might have shot themselves in the foot by getting rid of him so early. I also think Ole Miss set their program back by hiring Arkansas-reject Nutt. It's hard to believe they didn't have better options with the cupboard Ed Orgeron set up.
Okay, you just went off the deep end with that one. You think Ole Miss might have shot themselves in the foot by getting rid of Orgeron so early? Yeah, if Ole Miss' goal was to excel at sucking for many years. Most schools would have pulled the trigger after his second miserable season. After all, Ole Miss fired Cutcliffe after just his first losing season there and he had five winning seasons and four bowl victories. They were just having a rebuilding year during his losing season. They deserved what they got for what they did to him. Orgeron was a great recruiter. Yeah, so was Curly Hallman. Recruiting doesn't mean $hit if you can't coach your talent. Orgeron set Ole Miss back 25 years - meaning they went winless in the SEC for the first time in 25 years in his last year. When a coach's average is 3 wins a season, I don't think there is such a thing as getting rid of him too early. Did Nutt sleep with your wife or something? Is there something you're not telling me here. Kidding... He's not the best coach or anything, but in general, he is a winning coach and that beats the hell out of what they had before he arrived. There was some talent on the roster when he got there, but it wasn't like they were loaded at every position. Their performances were pathetic. He took a guy like McCluster (who had like under 15 carries combined the two years before Nutt got there) and totally transformed him making him a duel threat. He should have used him earlier against South Carolina and they might have pulled it out. That would be an example of stupid things he does. But he does some good things as well. Personally, I wish Orgeron was still at Ole Miss. That would just about guarantee us one more win and one less competitor in the West.
Ole Miss losing is great for us. Remember, we're trying to win the West and have a very tough schedule. Ole Miss has a conference loss, and so does Miss St and Arky. Now we need someone (besides us) to beat Auburn and Alabama. Once again, tonight's result is very helpful to our cause. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
IMO this is what the SEC will be about this yr. The middle of the pack teams stealing a win here and there, and the big boys swapping punches. The best finishing with 10 wins and the SEC knocking itself out of contention for the MNC. As for our future matchup with OM I'm very encouraged. OM is very beatable as USCe proved. The score isn't close to indicating how big USCe really won. Had they not shot themselves in the foot every time they got inside the 10 they would have blown OM out.
Coaching lost that game. No way McCluster should touch the ball less than 30 times that game. Had they used McCluster from the start of the game, Ole Miss wins.
