We had Wooten as a verbal to us at one point this year. He is shifty as hell though when I looked at his video. Along with Bell that would have meant 2 little slot receivers in this class had he not backed out on us also. Patrick Patterson (a big WR) wanted to commit to us, but I think we put him on ice and he went elsewhere. Now we have 2 athletes listed as 6' (which usually means they are shorter) in Calhoun and Claiborne and at least one may be placed on the offensive side of the ball. So it makes you wonder.....
A lot of that has to do with expecting Benton (big receiver) and pushing for Kelly (another big receiver). I am confident that our coaches are not happy with our receiver haul this year.
O.K. that's enough of from the peanut gallery, we aren't girly men here. Not that there is anything wrong with that!
Yes he was. They ran that play to Bowe a lot too. Bowe was the better overall WR though and definitely the better blocker. But Skyler was special on the returns and did have an end around for a TD in the championship game I believe. We shouldn't forget about Skyler--I think he went to Higgins High School and was a QB.
Bell is little in weight but not in height. He's supposedly a legit 6'1. My problem with him was he's a speed guy, but could he keep that speed at 190 instead of 160? I just never saw him working out for us with everything currently in the cupboard.
Slot receivers tend to be your most fluid players in the hips. They can turn and change direction the best of your wideouts, hence why they play the slot. These tend to be your smaller receivers. You have them going up against typically the third corner of the opponent or the opponent's safety, and that creates often a mismatch. That's also why teams will at times move a starting corner to the slot position if their nickel back isn't very good at defending the slot and swiveling his hips and one of their starting corners is better at it. A very good example of this for Saints fans is that Lance Moore operates best out of the slot. He can choose which direction to go on option routes and it makes him very hard to defend. Also, earlier this decade when Fred Thomas joined the Saints he was an exceptional slot cover corner because he could move his hips very very well. When he was a starter (back before he aged and lost a step and became a liability) the Saints would often move him to cover the slot receiver and stick their nickel corner on one of the split out wide receivers.
Was Doucet only 3 pounds lighter than Bowe? Hard to believe. He sure looked small too me. Josh Reed, Skylor Green were fantastic short receivers.
