4 Slots for 6 really good, qualified teams. Bama -- 12-1 and won toughest conference Oregon -- 12-1 won 2nd toughest conference FSU --- 13-0. Last year's champs. Played 12 power conference teams. Ok St. Notre Dame. Florida + ACC. And until someone beats them, for me, they're in the mix. Ohio State 12-1. See below. Baylor 11-1 and beat TCU and 2 other ranked teams. For me, the head to head win over TCU puts them ahead of TCU. There is nothing else to say. Ohio State 12-1 Beat 3 ranked teams. Non Conf schedule wasn't bad -- Navy, VaTech, Kent St and Cincinnati TCU --- beat 4 ranked teams (at the time) plus Minn. I think they have a great team, and maybe they belong in the playoff. But the head to head loss to Baylor ..... So the committee's solution will be --- leave both Big 12 teams out and and include Ohio State. Big 12 conference rules say that when 2 teams tie for conference champ, team with head-to-head win is supposed to be chosen ahead of the team they beat. 1.) Alabama vs 4.) FSU in the Sugar 2.) Oregon vs 3.) Ohio State in the Rose
1. Oregon 2. Alabama 3. TCU 4. Baylor Those are the best 4 teams in the country right now. FSU would lose to TCU and Baylor on a neutral field. Thats my criterion. The committee will select Bama vs FSU and Oregon vs Ohio State. Ohio State and TCU will swap spots today. Explain that to TCU after they more than validated the committee's choice to move them past FSU last week.
I thing the selection committee put themselves in a corner when the moved TCU to #3, and started the debate about TCU and Baylor. In my mind neither of those teams would survive against Alabama, Fla. State, Oregon or Ohio State. I would rank them like this. 1. Florida State. They went undefeated through 13 games with a target on their back. 2. Oregon. Either Oregon or Alabama at No. 2, but Oregon just looked better. 3. Alabama. Lost to Ole Miss, should have lost to LSU, struggled at Arkansas and looked vulnerable against Auburn. 4. Ohio St. In my opinion they would beat either TCU or Baylor pretty easily. Alabama & Florida State in the Sugar and Oregon & Ohio State in the Rose Bowl would be pretty good though.
Nobody past 8 has any claim to be in the playoffs! A 16 team playoff is a ridiculous idea. This year only 6 have an argument and this will most likely be the norm year in and year out. They will expand the playoffs sooner rather than later but no need to go past 8!
I think they should expand to 6 with the top 2 teams earning a bye week. Not because of how it's played out this year, but 6 seem to be the number of deserving 1 loss teams you're going to have more times than not. You play the first set of games on Xmas eve. School is out. No issue there. 2 1/2 weeks to get prepared. Enough time.
I'm going gumps, ducks, nuts and frogs. Screw fsu. They have a therapist and they haven't shown me anything other than being able to squeak by mediocre teams.
