Just what I was going to say. Coach Miles has let it be known that LSU would recruit one linebacker this year. They wanted Chris Walker real bad before he committed to Tennessee. Josh Bynes from out of Florida would be a great recruit, but I think our chances with him would have to be considered a long shot. In short, LSU may come up on the short end for linebackers this year.
The reason we didn't need but one LB this year is because the ones we got last year & the year before were so good. I've heard tremendous things about the guys that we haven't seen much of but the coaches see every day in practice. We only wanted one in this class, unfortunately there weren't any real good ones near us so we tried to go far away but have yet to land one.
no offense to Alley, but the only way he was "as fast as Addai in practice" is if Addai was jogging through drills (which, Joe isn't the player to take practice lightly).
I agree, no way he ran as fast as Addai, but that is what was reported by "the voice of the Tigers" on television on more than one occasion. My whole point is that we have reached an elite level in recruiting where our featured back now tends to be either extremely fast and/or extremely powerful. You have to go back to Justin Vincent's first year for an exception to that rule. Then you have to wonder if our great OL made Vincent look spectacular and he was just a good back because of the way he disappeared. The one recruit that bucks the trend so far is Hester. He was only a 3 star and I believe a 2 star on one service. And even though he is most people's favorite for his all around play, I think most would agree that as a pure runner Keiland is more talented. Heh, I'm not saying it is impossible to be a great runner without great speed or size--look at Emmit Smith.
JV himself said that exact same thing. Whitworth, Reed, Wilkerson, Niswanger, Peterman! Hell, I bet you and I could have broken at least one run for a long gain behind those mules!
