This is from Bruce Feldman's blog on ESPN (I don't have Insider, so can't access the whole thing) regarding the Joe McKnight situation and a connection to Ed Orgeron I wasn't aware of:

For my purposes, there's an interesting little subplot in the game connected to my book, "Meat Market." At the core of that was both schools' pursuit of Joe McKnight, the blue-chip all-purpose back from Louisiana. Most observers, especially in Louisiana, were convinced McKnight was a lock for LSU. Thing is, Rebels coach Ed Orgeron had helped open USC's eyes to McKnight's potential as an offensive player, not just as a cornerback. His hope was that USC would get McKnight thinking about leaving home, but then after the 18-year-old realized just how far away L.A. is, he'd be more comfortable with a much less remote option, say, Oxford.
"I wanna help Pete," Orgeron later explained, "but it doesn't hurt to get Joe away from LSU."

Anyone else know what this is about?

Not directed at you, dolemite, but I doubt at all that anyone in the LSU program gives a rat's tail what kind of crap Bruce Feldman is trying to start this week.

I don't follow recruiting all that much and thought he was bringing up some previous angle on the situation that I hadn't heard before, but that maybe someone else here did.

Right before signing day it came out that 'O' was telling Joe to choose USC over LSU. Joe had already made up his mind anyways. He didn't need Yaw Yaw to help him.

this was certainly known during the recruitment of JM about ogeron. it was no secret and who could blame him. he knew he couldnt get him so you do what you can to get him out of your conference.

    Did you cut/paste???..................ya didn't. :hihi:

As far as JM- remember someone posting on here (Don't remember who it was) that he'd seen PC and the gang eating out in NO the night before they were to visit JM and how errily calm they looked.....not worried. They weren't.

yes those quote thingies usually give that away. thats from espn insider.

edit: no, the thing you quoted above was my great insight. I never pass along other info as my own. I have plenty wrong opinions of my own.

yep i never once thought JM was coming to LSU. call it a hunch.

It's amazing how that incident is almost forgotten, or at least is only in the back of people's minds. Yes, I think for the Ole Miss head coach to be helping USC get a kid out of Louisiana is classless and wrong. I don't know if it ultimately mattered, but the intent was there. I don't like it. I don't like it one bit. I don't think we'd tell guys out of Memphis to go to Memphis instead of Ole Miss. I don't think even Urban Meyer would tell people to go to, say, FSU instead of LSU. I don't think LSU is telling Julio Jones to go to FSU instead of Bama. I just don't think it's done, or if it is, it probably shouldn't be done.

Like they wouldn't have figured that out for themselves.

    Good grief.

All Joe McKnight has to do is turn on the TV and watch what could have been.:geaux:
