Based on the short video, I tend to agree. I'm obviously not familiar with it. Does it move above the surface?
No. It has wheels. Not a Back to the Future hoverboard. Only a hoverboard because that's what the manufacturer calls it. More like a Segway than anything else. Did you notice that at one point Leonard had to catch his balance?
Heck if I know and I'm with gumborue on this one. I wouldn't call that a hover board either. I was expecting something much different when I first clicked on this thread. Good answer.
if its like a Segway, you cannot fall off. I paid $10 in '03 to ride one in a mall parking lot. I purposely tried to make it tip over and I couldn't--and I was near the weight limit for the thing.
Of course you can. Fournette fell off in the video. A segway won't tip, but you can definitely fall off of it. There is nothing to hold onto.
I saw the creators of the "hoverboard" on Shark Tank. They didn't call it a hoverboard then but said it was "wearable transportation." Supposed to go up to 25 mph with a range of about 30 miles. They didn't get a deal from any of the sharks mainly because the cost per unit to produce it was too high and they had to sell them for more than moswt college age kids can afford. The technology is similar to the technology of a Segway. Some other company has developed a hoverboard that does actually elevate above the ground but it can only be used with a magnetic strip that looks like a sidewalk. Not very practical, but they will probably sell a few to operators of amusement park rides.
