The founder of the Silk Road online site gets life in prison. Rapists don't get life. Child abusers and molesters don't get life. And the United States continues to lock people up and throw away the key for non-violent drug shit. This guy created a website that was used by people to buy and sell drugs. Should Bill Gates be arrested too because these people used Microsoft computers? Should the CEO of FedEx and UPS and the head of the USPS be locked up for delivering all these drugs? This is so utterly ridiculous, that it makes me fume with anger.

Meanwhile oil companies can destroy the environment, Josh Duggar can molest his sisters, Wall Street bankers can swindle us out of our money and wreck our economy, politicians can lie cheat and steal and never serve a day, but this guy gets life.

Dude set up a website that allowed people to import drugs - no promise of quality - resulting in many deaths from ODs and bad batches. So yeah, f-him and his effect on peoples lives.

I'm surprised more of this website's conservatives aren't more outraged over this. All he did was set up a truly "free market" with no regulation and the government took him down for it. Isn't that what gives erections to conservatives?

Not too mention the peddling of child porn, from what I've read. Still, all he did was provide the platform to trade. Others created the crimes. Life in prison is way too harsh a sentence.

part of this is Bill Clinton's fault and his stupid mandatory minimum sentences. The other part is this stupid bitch federal judge. The other part is the federal goverment and their ridiculous drug laws that no one has the balls or decency to stand up to. Just like that Swartz kid that killed himself, the Fed has taken a brilliant young mind and destroyed it.

Him being guilty of drug trafficking is like locking up the makers of Smith and Wesson every time a person is killed with one of their guns for murder.

There is more to the story. The judge made it clear that he was being used as an example. That happens sometimes when you are #1 in terms of setting the standard. Also from the judge, "The judge also said there was "no doubt" that Ulbricht paid for murders of those who had threatened Silk Road. Prosecutors had charged Ulbricht with commissioning six murders-for-hire but those charges were dropped.....Rejecting Ulbricht's request for mercy during the nearly three-hour hearing in Manhattan federal court, Forrest said of Silk Road, "It was carefully planned life's work. It was your opus. You wanted it to be your legacy and it is"

This was about way more than simple drug laws. The "stupid bitch" judge is an Obama appointee on recommendation from Democrat Chuck Schumer. Her personal info including address, phone number, and SS# were doxed as a result of presiding on this case. Not only that but she received online death threats as well...."Justice is not being served … Without further ado, f— this stupid bitch and I hope some drug cartel that lost a lot of money with the seizure of silk road will murder this lady and her entire family,” wrote a foe using the name “Serving Justice.”

Another poster spat, “Katherine Bolan Forrest is the judge who is unfairly ruining Ross Ulbricht’s life and chance for a fair trial.

“In case you are unaware of her, she was the Judge who ‘Rejected Every Defense Argument In The Silk Road Trial.’ For right now just steal her identity and send her gifts in the mail. Expect phone numbers and relatives SSNs … in a future release"

Typical of what an Ullbricht-type supporter would do.

I don't give a damn who appointed her she is shit. And I even said part of this is on Bill Clinton the ex Jailor in Chief. I wouldn't advocate harming her, but I would tell her to her face she is a big piece of shit.

I understand part of your issue but you convienently forget why the drug laws came to be and who pushed for them. The crack epidemic was sweeping through black neighborhoods and the attendant violence was feared out of control. Black and liberal leaders democrats were side by side with conservatives in calling for these laws.
This is more on those who were the ones who flooded the neighborhoods with crack and violence. The response wasn't totally correct and IMO went overboard in treatment of marijuana and non violent drug offenses but it wasn't evil as you imply.
