fully agree. the sec is already the strongest football conference, damned strong in baseball, but so-so in basket ball. the sec can, and should be selective and smart. it would be better to do nothing than to take teams just for the sake of expanding.

just expanding means nothing but further divvying up the revenues. we have to take teams that will add to, or at least keep even on, revenues. not just drain the coffers. the sec isnt in this as a charitable mission to make a lesser school more financially sound and strong. we are in this to get stronger ourselves.

how about adding Texas, Texas a&m, Texas Tech, and OU to the SEC West, and moving Alabama and Auburn to the SEC East, drop the every year game with Florida and pick up Alabama as an every year game.

Texas wants no part of the SEC. They know how difficult it would be to compete year in and year out. The PAC 10 offers them a chance to be a part of a new super conference with California and Texas as major players in future contracts as well as being able to compete consistently for championships.

Most of this stuff being takled about (recruiting, strength of opponents, geography) is all a subtext to the real issue. Money. At least ATM came out and said it was all about money. (I think it was A&M that said that). Anyway, the academics are an issue as well but the only reason recruiting or opponent strength would factor in is if it would hurt the bottom line long term. Unfortunately, I think some consumers (people who like the sec how it is) are going to lose out.

Edit: Yep it was RC Slocum who said it.....

Don't get me wrong I love the SEC the way it is...

But don't fail to go after big schools when their conf is falling apart...

I know we have won the last 4 titles hell i think the SEC has won half the BCS titles so far... but don't let things go to waste...

SEC getting into the Texas market is a good thing...

Hell I am looking at the new road trips it could bring to my future.. i am all about adding some big names but don't bring me the small schools or I'm content
