Just like a roommate told me almost 30 years ago because he never really understood why I was always optimistic: "False enthusiasm is better than no enthusiasm, I guess." Still remember him saying that to this day.
He's cool. He's the comically creative cynic here, don't take it personally. (Alliteration intentional) Besides, you're only 26 posts in.
see, you just have to realize how much worse it could be. bitter fans with unrealistic expectations vs grown men that "hump" with each other, go to midnight cult practice, invent tradition for tradition's sake, and depend on the offensive success of their football team in order to kiss a real live woman. perspective heals all. ok, i'm better now. geaux tigers!!! :tigereye:
That being the case, did you ever play for the Tigers, or are you just a really big guy who we might have wished played for the Tigers? As for Tirk don't confuse his very vocal discontent with not being a fan. He is a very passionate fan, he just has really high expectations. Expectations that for him to be happy, Miles will have to meet or exceed those expectations before he will give Miles a break. He really only wants what's best for the program, and of course his own personal entertainment dollars. Being brutally honest isn't a bad thing it just can rub some people the wrong way. If he gets under your skin I suggest that you just don't feed him, it will only fuel his desire to expose each and every weakness you have.
there was a certain unity in the fanbase with its misery. it wasn't divisive. now i'm talking about hallman because honestly i can't remember (too young) anyone before arnsparger. i'm a life-long saints fan, and there's something to being laughably horrible. it's the laughing part. most LSU fans (especially the ones born into the success of the 00's) would say it's because the saints were a franchise of losing and losing became acceptable. we are a program of success now and we expect success. but pick 5 programs any 5 besides LSU right now. Texas Florida Florida St Miami Oklahoma USC Notre Dame Alabama Ohio State Georgia Tenn Nebraska Michigan if you're a d-1 football coach any of those programs are considered a place where you could coach the rest of your career. how many of these schools would LSU fans trade places with right now? alabama? florida? any other answer is debatable. bob stoops has lost three NC games, FSU and Miami are programs under construction. tenn as well. hell if i had to compare fan base attitude with one of these programs it'd be UGA who didn't do half of what they should have under richt. we all know what's going on at USC. and the list goes on. maybe these things take care of themselves. maybe another football ice age would be a good thing. the NC's of 03 and 07 along with the saints SB were the 3 greatest moments of my fandom. but it's because i appreciated those moments, not because i expected them. btw, this brings up a good question, how the eff old are you? i thought you were my age?
no the anti miles brigade will never come around on him. another NC would just piss them off because he would stick around longer or the only good thing to come out of it is if he bolts for another job. the funny thing on all this is that i used to wholeheartedly back miles and now i'm on the fence. it wasn't ole miss, it was retaining crowton. but i'm not cheering for the guy to fail. i want him to succeed.
Oh, I know, I read on here everyday, Read several of his posts. Rarely do I get involved in threads, I am more of a reader than a poster.
Which is why I said, give Miles a break, and not become a Miles supporter. One can give Miles a break, but still want him gone. I for one have always been a huge Miles supporter, but at the end of the day my support is really for the Tigers. If Miles continues to keep our Tigers where they belong, then he can stick around; he continues down the path we have been on over the past 2 seasons, then it is time to figure out who is best for our program. My problem is the very short list of possible replacements aren't available, and I don't see them becoming available.
He isnt getting under my skin, I mean no dis-respect to him or anybody on my posts and I hope didnt come off that way with my reply. As for me, Playing Football for the Tigers was a goal & dream I had since I started Texas Pop Warner at age 9. 6'3" 245lbs - Defensive End - Believe it or not my chances of college ball were over my Junior Year in highschool playing in a damn pick up game of basketball at 24 hr fitness. Came down on my knee cap, fractured my patella & tore my ACL(Worse Pain I ever Felt in my entire life), ended up having 3 surgery's starting with a Lateral Release and eventually complete reconsructive knee surgery. - I know, one big waste of human flesh!
