I agree I may have taken the original post and 2nd a bit too far, I know what you mean when you say its no longer fun to be a fan anymnore. I should have specified when I said that anything less than returning to atlanta in december would be considered a failure. Because thats not completely true, to some fans & players it is.

The Goal from the first day of Spring practice is to win the sec west, win the sec, and win the NC. No coach or player is going to say its not, but in reality, there are going to re-building seasons, there are going to be injuries, there are going to be mistakes, and we are not always going to win it all. Sometimes, just a big win over a hated rival or knocking off a top 5 team on thier way to the bcs cg is satisfying enough for me to say I enjoyed the year. I guess its just the insanity of our OC's play calling last year, mixed with watching so much talent wasted that upsets us as fans.

But, this today is what college football has become, expectations are higher than ever, failures seem worse than ever, and success is sweeter than ever, but what are we supposed to do?

i guess i used to feel no matter what kind of season we had, we had the best fans.

i no longer feel that way. maybe it's because i'm turning 35 in less than a year and nothing was as loud or as cool as when i was younger and doing it (i.e. the student section was awesome when i was a student and then dropped off in recent years) i honestly believe that. but am i right?

i mean i'm still of the opinion that the LSU vs UF game in 07 is the loudest i've ever been to (or at least had the loudest moment)...like 9 yrs after i was a student. that's a good sign right?

is it entitlement? is it the rift in the fan base over miles? is it the disparity in expectations thru the fan base?

jeez i suck, i'm buzz killington. all hail my triumphant return to TF.

I think the expectations have alot to do with money. Ticket prices keeping going up and when people are spending that much money they want results. Inflation is a factor in the price increase, but I'd be willing to bet that the rate of increase is greater than the rate of inflation.

i hijacked this thread with my gloom b/c the OP had a great post. a post that has the same spirit i used to possess.

    and i want that again.

everyone should have that same spirit. but they don't. his breed is dying, and on the other side there are those negative fans that are dragging the fan base down.

and there is a third group, my group. too tired to fight the good fight anymore. logic is an ancient weapon on today's battlefield. and i seem to be content or more appropriately sentenced to sit here unmoved and watch the fire consume it all.

now i've depressed myself, this is like a fan suicide letter. i'm going home to play with my daughter.

You didnt hijack the thread, cause consider me in your group brother!

I am right there with you, I understand we cant win it all every year, I understand there are 120 teams and 120 fan bases that start the season with the same record and the same goals we have! They may have different expectations, my boss for example, HUGE Texas A&M fan, understands where his Aggies sit year in & year out, but I tell you what, when they knocked off Texas back to Back years 06-07, that guy was on top of the world.

My OP was just to get some life & fire back into our fans. To bring out the positives in this football team & program. We have A LOT to look forward to, and To let you guys know, that no matter where we are(W-L) on the final whistle against UF, Bama, Aub, Ole Miss, Arky... this year....We will have grateful fans, we will have pissed off fans and we may even have those band wagon fans. AND I"LL ALWAYS REMEMBER If we dont get them this year, We will get em next year!!!:thumb:

    OP

I am 57 and went to my first game in 1962.

I have 6 kids and they are all Tigers.

All I can say is that my spirit is your 1st post. Love it and would love to sit by you on the 50 yard line row 48 eastside.

Just be a Tiger and don't over think it.

I'd love it! Took my wife(Texas Longhorn Alumni) to her first trip to BR and Tiger Stadium last year against UF, she has already agreed to go back, seeing how my birthday is Nov. 2nd, I'd say tickets to the Bama game on the 6th should be on the birthday wish list this year!

BTW, she was blown away with our tailgaiting, and Im proud to say that, the once Texas Sorority girl now has 5 times more purple and gold hanging her closet than burnt orange. She views college football in a completely new way.

you folks dont remember the day when all fans were miserable.

you were just spoiled with all grateful fans when you were growing up.

Now you simply expect it because you know nothing different. Let me tell you, it hasnt always been that way.

yall should all stop whining and start acting like the mature, appreciative fanbase you claim to be.

take responsibility for your own misery and stop blaming others.
