I remember Bear. He was a nice old man. I use to sit and watch him coach from his tower. He'd climb down from the tower and and walk over to the middle of the field and his players would line up to his left, right, front and back. When he faced a line, they would do their drills.

He is the best coach of my lifetime.

You can't possibly think that's the only place I've ever run into this. I live in Purvis, MS. I was born and raised in Metairie, LA. Knew/know quite a few Bama fans there. I was in the USAF for nine years. Now, I travel for a living. There are Bama fans everywhere. It is what it is.

"Had he and I but met
    By some old ancient inn,
We should have set us down to wet
    Right many a nipperkin!

    But ranged as infantry,
    And staring face to face,
I shot at him as he at me,
And killed him in his place.

Yes; quaint and curious war is!
    You shoot a fellow down
You'd treat, if met where any bar is,
Or help to half a crown."

Thomas Hardy had it right - if rival fans met in a neutral setting, we would probably all get along just fine.

However, there's nothing wrong with a good, old-fashioned rivalry as long as we all remember that it is just a game.

Having said that, however, I must add

    GEAUX TIGERS!

    FLUSH THE TIDE!

As people, I know the fans of all our rival schools are fine people. On game day though they are Tiger Bait. Having spent most of my life, as many of you, in the south, I will say there is no place like it. The people are unmatched by any place else that I have lived, and that is the biggest thing I miss about living down there. I wouldn't trade that part of my heritage for anything. Not just being from Louisiana, but from the south as a whole. Having traveled to all of the SEC states, having been in all of the stadiums there, I can say that even as a rival the fans treat each other pretty good. Most generous people I have ever met, reign in the south.

All that said, this Saturday Bama and their fans are Tiger Bait. :geaux: :LSU231:
