Ok, I agree with Kedo and Carface's last 2 posts.
I didn't realize it was about USC and OU and the credibility problems the NCAA have, and always had.

What we now need is a congressional oversight and investigations into the NCAA and their discrimination.
Screw pro sports, who cares what the pros do, I don't.
I'm not for them killing themselves and breaking the rules but I'm more interested in amatuer sports.
The pros should be mature enough to take care of themselves, all that money!

    Now I'm done!

Recruiting was a little different in the 80's versus today.

I remember Lester was driving a brand new 300zx. They claimed he paid for it with all the money his mama saved up for him to pay for college. She knew when he was young he was going to school on a scholarship, why was she saving money? Most restaurants and bars the players visited back then gave them free admission, drinks and meals (and yes, free gas). Just about all schools had booster that slipped cash or similar to players after games. Back then players were paid high hourly wages for summer jobs and were required to do very little and no one thought that was wrong. Today they police that better.

Currently if a program allows boosters to get to close to players there will be problems. Boosters are to sports what groupies are to rock bands. Just the boosters have money to buy access. The LSU coaches committee for baseball gives access to the players. I think there is a similar committee for basketball that meets with coaches and players before and after games. Not that I am implying anything wrong with LSU coaches committees (I think LSU actually educates boosters pretty well about what they can and can’t do) just that when boosters have access to players bad things can happen.
