Earl is the only person that told the NCAA he received $5000 and he has admitted it was a lie so there was nothing there for Dale to know. Maybe he did get a free pizza and some gas but who knows was he lying about that too?

Is there a football game tomorrow or am I missing something? I heard the frisbee team is making a run at the title.

We MAY have "cheated", but the point is that the NCAA has always selectively prosecuted the teams of their choice. "Poor" Lester showed-up at Kansas less than a week after leaving LSU. He was sitting behind the Kansas bench, and was already living in Lawrence.
Roy Williams said he had NO CONTACT with Lester prior to Lester leaving LSU - and the NCAA believed this ??????
How did he get to Kansas ? Those of us who followed LSU Basketball back then remember how unbelievably quick the Lester to Kansas thing happened. There was no way that the pieces fell in place that quickly without Williams and Kansas contacting him prior to his leaving LSU. The memory of this transition does fit into his 2007 "apology".
Lester lives in Kansas, and has no reason to make this story/apology up.

Bottom Line......Dale Brown was persecuted for calling-out the NCAA "Gestapo Bastards" for what they were.
He may not have been the best X and O Coach, but at least his teams hustled and made LSU Basketball fun to watch !

Whats the point in this whole thread, Its only about 10 years too late!:rolleye33::dis:

If you are trying to compare Dale Brown with John Brady there is no comparison.
Dale Brown was getting up there in age and knew he didn't have long left at LSU so he did what he could to have one more chance to win it all.

Do I agree with it, nope, but he STILL is a class act which Brady wasn't
    End Of Story!

It does inform the current situation with Reggie Bush and USC. Earl's apology is consistent with the railroad job done by that so-called investigation, especially when the NCAA refused to accept LSU-imposed probation/schollie losses. And it's yet another chapter in the NCAA's history of treating big programs with kid gloves and throwing the book at lesser ones.

Had they not imposed punishment on OU's football program, I'm convinced the NCAA would have let the Reggie Bush investigation drop quietly at this time last year. But this time they've really pushed themselves in a corner now that they've come down on one of CFB's sacred cows. If the NCAA lays off USC, then Oklahoma raises holy hell about preferential treatment. Which is why this investigation has dragged on for >2 years now.

Nobody mentioned John Brady...the point of this thread was Lester Earl and The trouble LSU got into by recruiting him.As far as Dale Brown being a class act...personally he is,no doubt, but my barber is a class act, also. So are my next door neighbors,my mailman...blah blah blah.
So being up there in age gives someone the right to break the rules and achieve a professional goal?

If he wanted one more chance at winning it all, maybe he should have watched Lester PLAY...then we wouldn't have even wasted a scholarship on that knucklehead, and maybe Dale could have recruited a basketball player.

i really don't care if Kansas was cleaning Lester's knob under the table at dinner,or if Kansas,Kentucky or any other school cheats.I worry about LSU.Keep your own house clean..

To me this sounds like a five year old when they get in trouble"WELL JIMMY DID IT TOOOOOO..."ohmygod

And if Dale didn't like the RULES of the NCAA ...work to change them

...which is what he always tried to do, which is why it bit him in the ass in the end. Publicly criticizing the NCAA gets you the Dale Brown treatment.
