I read this on Dale Brown's wikipedia page. Sorry if we discussed this and I missed the boat. It says Lester Earl wrote a letter to Coach Brown admitting he lied about the whole process to save his career.
That came out in the paper about a year ago when Earl was visiting Baton Rouge. He pretty much admitted the NCAA gave him the choice of sacrificing Brown, Jones and LSU or his career. For a thug that's an easy choice to make.
No offense, but if you've got a choice of either: a. making 4-5 mill a year for 12-14 years by making up a story about someone you've only known for a few years b. tell the truth and maybe never play at the NBA level. what would YOU do? A lot of people here are "thugs" by that definition.
Not even close so don't even try it. Are you telling me you would be willing to ruin an honest mans career and harm those that are supposed to be your teammates just for personal gain? Given that choice an overwhelming majority would make the right choice IMO. Not everyone is willing to step on others on their way to the top. I don't pretend to be of the highest morale character but what Lester Earl did was way below me and most everyone I know.
it's easy to say that when you're not in the situation... that's all I'll say. just like it's always easy for us to say that "these kids are idiots going pro early, etc..," until we're in their shoes.
I'll give you the going pro and things like that, but those aren't ethical questions. I'm no little kid, I've been in the business world for many many years. Time and time again as you go through life you will be given the opportunity to sell out your friends and coworkers. For most people that isn't even a choice and not worth even thinking about. The NCAA investigation of the LSU basketball program wasn't a one time question and answer session. Earl had many many opportunities to do the right thing and instead took the easy way out and stabbed his friends in the back.
Explain to me how making up that story was going to give Earl the opportunity to play in the NBA for 12-14 yrs? Hell, he couldn't beat out his brother, who nobody recruited, to be in the starting five at LSU. I think that was the motivation to attack Brown and LSU.
Extended career= better chance to be in the pros. I am not saying anything was guaranteed. It just gave him a better chance to show he was healed from the injury.
