It looked like deja vu. JJ takes a sack with about a minute to go. Last week the we blew the game by letting 17 precious seconds tick off the clock. This week in an apparent complete over reaction (so I thought) we call a timeout after the sack. What a mistake? Why are we calling a timeout this early with over a minute left? We will need that time out. A complete mismanagement of the clock once again (so I thought). The truth is it was exactly the right call. It gave the staff a chance to settle down Jordan Jefferson and help him collect his thoughts. If everybody on the LSU sidelines is honest it probably helped the coaching staff settle down again. Congrats coach Miles, JJ and the Tiger team on a lesson learned.
I was yelling for a TO, and was very happy to see they got it without wasting any time. I didn't think about your point of settling JJ down, (good point), I just knew that the first downs would take care of the clock. But it was obvious that they put time and effort into getting plays called and the ball snapped in the 2 minute offense, and because of that we won!
Oh yeah, they did the right thing there. I thought they weren't going to based on how we've managed things in the past. We would have had little chance had we not called it there because by the time he gathered his composure, went to the line and called the play, a ton of time would have ticked off and everybody on offense would have really been nervous running the play. It likely would have resulted in another bad play. So yeah, the coaching staff did a good job there.
the obvious difference was that lsu wasnt in fg position, so passing and risking a sack is the thing to do. the clear key to the success of that drive was jj hitting ridley in stride. those were perfect passes.
Ridley looked good catching the ball, and making extra efforts while being tackled. He played very well. Only thing I had wondered during the second half: were those other two time outs burnt earlier necessary?
I don't think they were. I know for sure one was blown because they (once again) weren't able to get the play in on time.
