There's always the chance that the new coach continues to lose to OSU. IF (big 'if') that happens, the opportunity will present itself again. He sacrificed the here and now for this year's team. I love the fact that he cares so much.
For whatever reasons, Miles say no to a job he probably dreamed about for many years. That says a lot about how he feels about LSU. It doesn't mean he won't say yes to them if the job comes open again, but he knows that may never happen, or at least not anytime soon. If turning down a job that you dreamed about is a betrayal to LSU, well then, I can live with being betrayed.
Just like those who left Louisiana...We left in 1996 after we got married...both my husband and I grew up there (Mandeville) and HAD to get out...we've never looked back....loved our time at LSU (and ultimately NLU as not much of an education was ever achieved at LSU...not one that would make us employable outside of a local sports bar at least) we love going back to visit and we've talked about moving "home", but I don't think we ever will. Plus..its wayyyyy more fun to fly the purple and gold outside of La. and attempt to convert people...we now have new followers in Kansas City, Mo., Columbus, Oh., Columbia, Mo., Tampa, Fl., and now Ft. Myers, Fl...we'll convince em' all eventually we're the best!!:LSU231:
I think this is EXACTLY what happened. I have no doubt he was going to be offered Michigan and he was going to take it. I think he was trying to get more money out of LSU, but he really did not want to address the issue. I think he really felt the discussion was hurting his team and he did what HE though he had to to give them the best chance to win the SEC championship game. I think he understands he can not serve two masters and close the door on his dream job.
I think he was upset that he had to pull the trigger early on staying at LSU because ESPN reported he was going to UM. I actually think Miles was heading to UM, LSU countered, ESPN reported Saturday morning that Miles was going to UM, then Les had to make a decision. I think Miles was heading to UM until LSU countered then ESPN reported the UM story.
