Gosh...will you let it go already??? I mean, imagine yourself as a coach and a graduate of LSU but being employed someplace else. Say your current place of employment is currently in the top 5--and has been since you took over and you have also recruited strongly enough to see little, if any, drop off in production for the near future. You're also in line to be paid upwards of 3 million for your services. Your family likes where they are--and you like where you are. Does it mean you just STOP loving your alma mater??? NO!!! You would STILL love LSU just like Les loves Michigan; just like I LOVE Baton Rouge--and can probably get a job there--but frankly, I'm financially set where I am NOW. In the coaching world, success breeds PAYDAY and the fact that Miles sees LSU as being in a position to be more successful NOW than Michigan is an example of the reality that Miles is dealing with. He's got job security here whereas if he takes over at Michigan, he's facing an uphill battle to "right the ship" against Ohio State and if the players capable of doing that aren't on campus in Ann Arbor yet, then he's stuck taking the risk that he can bring them in ASAP. I really don't know what the hell else the man can do to make some people happy??? He just won the SECCG and has played in the conference title game twice in his 3 seasons here. He's already assured himself of taking LSU to back-to-back BCS bowl games and likely a BCS title game. He stated in a pre-SECCG interview that he WASN'T leaving...expressed how great he thinks LSU is as a school, program and place to work/coach. ...but the man is like ANY one of us: He remembers fondly the days when he was in college--and the school in which he played. LET IT GO!
Very well said, RHans405. I believe you are right on the money. Coach Miles made a sacrifice for his team...he sacrificed his life long dream...to do the right thing. I'm not saying that as a Tiger Fan (I am), I'm saying it as a human being. Coach Miles put his team and integrity over his dream. After all, there are worse jobs in America than head football coach at LSU, even if your heart is at home. It's just that Coach Miles now has love for two homes. Kind of a pleasure to have a coach with a higher degree of integrity than ambition.
During the last few games including the Ark loss I lost some respect for CLM and was actually kind of happy he was leaving BUT these last 24 hrs has showed me what kind of man he is. From this point on he has nothing but my 100% respect! :geaux: I know he does some unexplainable things and acts kind of wacky every now and then but he has big balls and a big heart and they will be at LSU for a long time. The players love the man and would walk through hell for him, they would know more about him than any fan.
His heart will always be in Michigan, but his job is at LSU and that's to be a HC and lead this team to as many NCG as he can plus years down the road if they look for another coach and the LSU job isn't working out look him up again!
I believe we finally have a coach that is going to stick with us for the long haul. It is great to see a man of such integrity lead this team. Of course dollars do help and as already said Michigan would have been an uphill battle. But he did the right thing and put the moment of playing in the SEC championship for these kids ahead of his own personal ambitions. I can guarantee these kids will remember this and go to war for him for years to come. :helmet: :crystal: :helmet:
