Hey Guys, I wasn't able to listen in last night but I read Dandy's update this morning. Did Miles really say that he was being stubborn and that we should've thrown for 350 against MSU? If so, what the hell? Why didn't we? And what do you think this says about Miles?
He said a few times this week we should have thrown more. And he did say he tried to stick with the run more than he should have. Hopefully what it tells me is that there will be more in game changes according to what the defense gives us. I still don't think his philosophy is going to change to much going into the game though.
I didn't hear the interview, but it wouldn't surprise me. The week before the game, someone asked Miles what we should expect for the MSU game and he said "We'll be running the same stuff as last week; we've got to get better at it."... Now, maybe in hindsight he thinks we should have thrown more, especially after seeing Jefferson go vertical a couple of times. I'm thinking we might see that a bit more this game, but don't be surprised if early in the game, we see a lot of the same offense attempting to establish the run. I think the passing game will come a bit later, when GA thinks they've got our game figured out and really starts stacking the box.
I don't see a problem with it. He is trying to force the rushing offense to get clicking. Maybe he thinks that the Rushing O is having something like writers block. One good rushing series could make everything fall into place and they get rolling.
I don't have any problem with him saying this, if you mean that he shouldn't have divulged this information, or that he is now being wishy washy, or that his playcalling is poor, or that he is admitting to being stubborn (at least for this one game), etc. To me, the big picture that this comment divulges is that he is demonstrating open mindedness and growth as a HC. If he seriously questions his own playcalling, then that would hopefully lead to a willingness to be more creative, or effective in what plays work in the SEC, or to push harder on play execution as Tirk eluded to, or other objective improvements in decision making on gameday. We can all improve in our professions, and CLM is no exception, in my view (and hopefully in CLMs view).
I posted a similar thread, but i'll post here. Les dictates what direction the offense is going to take. If he says he was being stubborn, when the running game wasnt working, that means we could have possibly ran the score up on Miss St. Just my opinion. What the hell happened to the fast reply Brett? lol
yeah but that's the whole thing. if we really could have thrown for 350 why wouldn't we? i understand les being an old o-lineman and wanting to run the ball, but logic dictates that if you want to win you do what works. i just don't understand.
maybe he KNOWS that we win that game without question. we already know that CLM doesn't run up the score. could it have bit him in the ass? maybe so, but it didn't -- and hasn't -- yet. CLM is stubborn. we know that, the opponent knows that, everyone knows that. i guess we just have to accept that LSU is never (or hardly ever) going to look like a juggernaut. we win ugly. but we do win. i don't care how it gets done as long as we do get the "W." "Vs" are just lagniappe.
Les is a stand up guy, we know that. I just think he doesnt believes in blowing people out unless he is really pissed off or has to show he still is in control of this thing. Ala, Miami, ND, GT, and Ohio St. But its time to stop the stubborness aside and win with what works. I think if he uses Shepard more this game, teams will loosen up and respect his running ability. I know that has only been said 50k times here.
hey i don't care either. but i don't think it should come to a goalline stand against moo state. but saturday is the day he needs to show he's in control and he needs to run up the score if he can.
