thats because he would deserve it. he has a lifetime of not giving a fuck about anything but himself and football. les doesnt have that stigma to disprove.
Every coach has gaffes and makes questionable decisions at time. When Les got here, we had just gotten to the top tier of College Football. It was new to us. SEC Title and Sugar Bowl in 2001, and a BCSNC in 2003. Since Les has been here, he's kept us in contention almost every year. Consinstency is big for me. He puts a strong team on the field year in, and year out. We have 3-4 tough, hard fought games every season that come down to the end. Even when we lose, we had a chance at victory. That's good coaching. And it's exciting. Les has graduated 78% of his players (I think) and put a TON of guys in the NFL, even if only long enough for a cup of coffee. Since Les has been here, the SEC has become the dominant conference in CF. Every year we have 5 or 6 teams ranked in the Top 25 and over the last 4 or 5 years look out our Division. And Les has had our team right in the middle of things. Year in and year out. LSU is now a National brand. Like Notre Dame and Michigan USED to be. Now kids come from all over the country to play here. Not just for the school. Not just to play in Tiger Stadium or in the SEC. And not just for the beautiful colors...... Many come to play for Les Miles. And he wins with class.
Well, Cholly Mac was a very good coach for LSU, loyal as any coach had ever been a he turned down some great offers to stay at LSU and of course jeff had some great years. However I don't think you can really compare the two in my mind, Les has been much more successful so far against much better competition. While Cholly put up a few great seasons there were also quite a few in which we didn't beat any of the good teams on our schedule, and did not play near the competition we do under Miles. I was ready for Mac to go but the Bo Rein death and bad decisions hurt us immensely. But of etc had to go through those pains to be where we are now on the CFB hierarchy than it was worth it to me. Dale Brown I'll comment on when a suitable thread comes up during BBALL season.
