Well, like anyone else, I would think coaches will do whats the best for themselves and their families. I dont fault them for that or trying, Spurrier got put in a bad situation with the Redskins. Bad management, very little say so in drafting or signing players etc. So that situation, for the most part, wasnt really of his making. Saban, on the other hand, got handed a pair of rose colored glasses after we won the BCS, and thought he had become "Gods gift" to the NFL. Of course we all know how "that move" worked out. I had a chance to chat "off the cuff" about that, one day with Tony Boselli. ( Did some work on his house ) What he said made perfect sense. When you go from High school to college...everything becomes more complex, bigger and faster...then during transition from college to pro, the same rule applies, more complexity, bigger players and even more speed. Some guys just cant make the transition, this would have to apply to coaches as well. All that being said, I think we,ll have coach around for a while longer, unless someone ships him a pair of those glasses of course. :helmet::helmet::helmet::helmet::helmet::helmet::helmet:
I don't claim to KNOW anything personally about Les Miles...(except for the fact that he posseses steel nuts...saw it on a Kentucky board)...but I say he stays...because he won't be offered by Michigan. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong...but I don't think Michigan wants Les...just their fans do. As we all know, fans don't get a vote.:thumb:
Well if Michigan wants him he's going to be the most expensive thing they ever saw with that Michigan buyout clause in this contract. They might be better off looking elsewhere.
BS Muschamp is THE reason for AU beating UF two years in a row and LSU last year with inferior talent. The guy knows his **** on defense! Alot of folks give TT the credit but WM is the force behind their winning with defense. IMO AU would be a lot worse with out him. I like the guy and he'll make one hell of a head coach one day.
Agreed. In most situations I could see a coach leaving for his former school, but this is no ordinary situation. It could be career suicide to leave everything he's got here for a rebuilding project in Ann Harbor and like red says, Saban and Spurrier are prime examples. Furthermore, I'm not so sure Michigan will offer Miles.
If we can make the 2 QB system work why not make Crowton and Pellini CO-Head coaches. Pay them both more the what Saban makes. Then make opposing teams wonder who coaching and what type of game plan is coming in. One could be on the field and the other in the press box for games. They could map out different types of strategies for each game. It would be a total team effort. Then we would keep them both and they would not leave for any other team. They could staff here for as long as they are successful. It would take really good chemistry.
Lets' say that anyone of us were coaching at Nebraska. You build the program back up and sport a couple 11-2 seasons on your way to a #1 ranking in year three, winning a Nat'l Championship in te end. LSU comes calling and says, "We want you to restore our program to greatness." Are you leaving for Baton Rouge or staying at Nebraska? This was a scenario that I heard on the radio this past week and the answer I come up with everytime is "I'm headed to Baton Rouge." because there's nothing like coming home again and winning. Nothing. There is a scenario that could very well play out that keeps Miles at LSu at least for another season. If LSU wins out and heads to the BCS Championship game, it's an awful long time between the end of the regular season and the BCS Championship game. That's an important time in recruiting and I just can't see Michigan going all that time without a head coach. At the same time, I can't see Miles leaving for An Arbor, knowing that he's about to coach for the BCS Championship. I think it's much more likely that Carr coaches one more year before Miles leaves for Michigan. Perhaps then someone like Pat Hill or Gary Patterson will be ready to leave Fresno State/TCU (respectively) for Baton Rouge (or someone better).
That's an interesting question. Everybody brings up Spurrier and Saban, and how it didn't work out for them after leaving highly successful programs that were still at the top. But neither Spurrier nor Saban went "home". CLM would be going "home". However...we are all under the assumption that UM wants Les Miles...at least MOST of us are. I don't believe they do...I believe he has burned some bridges there. I don't believe UM is gonna call Les "home". Either way, he will or won't be back next season...but this season, he's ours...and it's a good thing.
