Les Miles will never beat Nick Saban again, therefore LSU will never win the West

Well DJ Welter started for this team for the better part of 2 seasons. Anything is fucking possible with Les Miles. Throw in some bloodlines and it is ratcheted up that much more.

im getting to where I don't care anymore. I was born a die hard LSU fan and I will die as one but the days of getting all worked up over a loss like this just isn't in my appetite. I will watch them and support them win or lose. Alleva isn't going to rid of Miles especially after the kind of season he's having so just accept that Alabama has the greatest coach in college football and just enjoy the game.

This reminds me of McClendon and Bear debates from long ago . To be honest not many are beating little Nicky these days and if LSU goes and wins the rest of it games and we let Les go what kind of coach would want to go a school that didn't stand behind a winning coach. I get frustrated and mad at Les but I don't see anyone out there that I just have to have.

Difference is winning percentage & the fact that when Cholly Mac was here, there was no talk of the national championship. Miles took us there twice.

This. I keep trying to tell folks, I understand all the being pissed off about losing to Bama 4 or 5 times in a row. But how many coaches consistently beat Bama year in and year out? I'll tell you... Not many. Ole Miss is the closest with 2 wins in a row against them this season and last. The only other team that has 2 wins in a row over Bama since Saban has coached there? You guessed it.. LSU.

Here's another way of looking at it (double check me on this as I'm at work and may have overlooked something).. Wins over Bama by SEC teams since Saban took over in 2007:

    LSU - 3 Wins
    Auburn - 3 Wins
Ole Miss - 2 Wins (this year and last)
    TA&M - 1 win
    Moo U - 1 win
    Georgia - 1 win*
    Florida - 1 win*
    South Carolina - 1 win*

    * East teams... admittedly, they don't play Bama every year

So there are 2 teams that have beaten Bama 3 times in the Saban years: Auburn and LSU
One additional team that has beaten them more than once in the last 8 years: Ole Miss, and that was in the last 2 seasons.
A&M and Moo U each have a win against them and they play them every year.
The SEC East teams that don't play them every year have 1 win each, and Tennessee who does play them every year, has none.

It's not like everyone is kicking the shit of of this team and we just can't do it. We're actually tied for first in wins against them in our division.

Look, I got no problem with looking to improve and I was as sick as anyone about the lack of performance we saw Saturday. But some of the arguments I see on this forum are in the context that it's just easy as shit for any coach to beat Bama; there's more to it than that. Honestly, I don't think calling for Miles' head is the answer.

You're right, calling for his head isn't the answer, but Miles is gonna have to figure out that his way is good enough to beat everyone with some regularity. It's not against Alabama. I would have thought a man being paid as much as he does would have figured that out by now, but I'm not sure he has.

Well I learned early in my career, if you think something is wrong you don't just go to the boss and say, "this sucks," but you say "got to tell you boss, this sucks, let me tell you a better way."

I think we are truly lucky to have Miles. I don't think he is as creative, over 60 minutes, that his "mad hatter" rep implies. But he needs to evolve. One of the big thinkers stated "a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds..." In fact, that might even be a member's signature here. Immaterial, but the point is that our game plan is pretty consistent, and well coached teams make us look foolish.

I believe we would be farther ahead, faster, if somehow Miles could incorporate some imaginative play calling, but as time goes on, that looks less and less likely.

So, I realize that not knowing a replacement is not a reason to retain an employee (coach or whomever), but prudent planning dictates, especially at the high level where LSU operates, to have some idea where you want to go. Kind of the 7 P's I learned early in my naval career. Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. In a similar vein, General Eisenhower stated "The plan for D-Day was useless, but the planning was invaluable."

Sure, we don't need a replacement in place before, say, Miles would be terminated, but we sure as hell better have scouted the landscape to see where we wanted to go, and who is AVAILABLE to get us there.

I admit I am a planning, but not a plan, type of guy, so asking who the alternative would be is just "how I roll."

Yeah, I don't see a win in the near term over Saban and Bama happening and I don't like that, but there are several billion more pressing problems in the world.

And there is only a small handful of college football teams that would not trade places in a nano second with LSU, Miles and all. Geaux Tigers!

I wonder which program would hire miles for 6 million. Who might replace him would be an interesting conversation if I had time to research it, but miles wasn't viewed as an excellent hire when we got him so saying he is irreplaceable is a bit ridiculous.

I pray to the Baby Jesus you did not read my post, the one you quoted, and concluded my point was that Miles was irreplaceable.
