Miles is the most valuable coach in America. In 2004 the football department contributed 2.2 million dollars to LSU. Last year the contribution was 39 million. LSU football has a value of 89 million dollars. On academic lines ,LSU is now 4th in the SEC with an arp of 960. When miles took over it was 923. Since miles' arrivial at LSU the football department is one of only two fbs programs that is self supporting and no other has given back as much money to the school. Miles' success at LSU is not only in the win / loss column but in the development of the players. Lsu is now 4th in the sec in players gpa. LSU can carry on it's tridition of winning in other sports because of the football department's monatary contributions under Miles' leadership. He is LSU's MVP. On cell phone so no link but can find article on the "and the valley shook "website that refers you to the bleecher report.:miles:
yet ticket prices keep going up. can we please give ticket holders a break now? and will taf please freeze the extortion fee for a while?
Must have just got bill in. Sorry for reminding you of the cost. I guess that's why football was able to give 39 million
Plus the added revenue from t.v. contracts as well but I don't need that frame-work to tell me how valuable Miles is to LSU. Just having the comfort of feeling like we're running, at the least, a relatively clean program is worth a lot to me. The success he's had (wins/losses/recruiting) speaks for itself. If I were the parent of a kid looking to play college football that 4th gpa ranking among SEC schools would be a HUGE plus for me. You can take Vanderbilt out for practical matters so that makes us 3rd in "real terms" and in looking for programs that contend imo. What I mean is if they're serious about a quality football program AND grades- they can have both here.
I want our players to get their education and graduate from LSU. That should be the goal of every head coach in football because to be honest only a small percentage of players even at a school like LSU actually make it each year. Prepare your players for life after football and give the ones good enough to make the nfl the tools to succeed and not end up broke. I value Les Miles as a man more than i do as our coach. Because he truly has the best interest of our school and players at heart. And people underestimate him as a coach because he may not speak like a politician. But he speaks from the heart and thats all i look at. Would you rather have a coach that speaks all correct and then what he says 99 per cent of the time is lies and bs. The reason Les Miles is a succesful recruiter is he talks plain and parents can tell he is going to make sure their kids are going to be in good hands while they are at LSU. And as a parent sending what is part of you away from home dont you want someone who cares enough to make sure they do right. And when they dont is going to be there to be fair and see they do what is right. I am proud that we have a coach to lead our football program like Les Miles becaUSE WE HAVE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. A GOOD MAN FIRST AND A GOOD COACH SECOND.
As long as people are paying it and the seats are filled, it will only go up. Such is the nature of economics. If you want the prices to go down, start boycotting. Of course, if you did that, I'd gladly fill your seat! :thumb:
If enough people boycotted and seats were not being sold the TAF would take up the slack and buy them. The TAF was paying for empty seats during the Hallman years and will continue to buy them. LSU football got a little too rich for me a few years ago. 5000 or 6000 a year was just a tad bit more than I was willing to pay to watch 7 games a year. It was easier to buy the big screen TV and have the parties at home. Sad thing but that is how it is. The 5 or 6 thousand did not include the travel expense.:milesmic:
I'm good for one game a year...usually in Sept or Oct. I always say I'd LOVE to be a part of the crowd for a big SEC game in Nov, but truthfully, I enjoy being able to actually see what's going on.
Looking strictly in terms of profit—IE: Expenses to Revenue generated—LSU ranks third in the SEC this past reporting season. (Figures from US Dept. of Ed.) Georgia leads the SEC and is second nationally behind TX. Football Profit 1 Univ. of Georgia $52,529,885.00 2 Univ. of Florida $44,258,193.00 3 Louisiana State Univ. $43,253,286.00 4 Univ. of Alabama $40,766,391.00 5 Univ. of Tennessee $39,236,601.00 6 Auburn Univ. $38,251,007.00 7 Univ. of South Carolina $35,471,948.00 8 Univ. of Arkansas $26,519,140.00 9 Univ. of Kentucky $17,984,848.00 10 Univ. of Mississippi $16,489,264 11 Mississippi State Univ. $4,600,178.00 12 Vanderbilt Univ. $0.00
however, lsu one in which all expenses are paid for by revenue generated by the department. state funding is not received, and the department is completely self-sustaining. which is why i think ticket holders at lsu need to be given a break.
