Well placed argument ... BUT .. you can't use that statistic without figuring in the yards gained, and starting field position. ... as well as the strength of the defenses [with LSU's being heads and shoulders better than OR's]. For example .. in the LSU vs OR game ... OR ran 92 plays for 335 yards (3.64 yrds per play). LSU ran 73 plays for 273 yards (3.73 yrds per play). That is about even. IOW ... LSU consistently had better starting field position last year than did OR, because of our Defenses ability to shut down the other team or produce turnovers [which we were pretty high on the "turnover's for" list last year]. In contast, OR's defense allowed more scores, and thus the OR offense started deep in its own territory for a good number of its possessions. Also .. in the OR game .. LSU's offense had the ball 33 min of the game vs OR 26. As I noted before, the run game is designed to win the time of possession war, and LSU did a good job of that, but we also have to acknowledge the fact that our Defense didn't allow OR's offense to stay on the field for any length of time with the exception of 2 drives. Both of OR's Touchdown drives (80 yrds, 7:41; 68 yrds, 4:53) were longer than any of LSU's drives (longest being 69 yrds, 4:32). Not surprising, the number of plays were more related to the time on the field and length of the drive, with OR's longest drive eating up 19 plays and it's other long drive eating up 13 plays. LSU's only long drive ate up 12 plays. The "pass/runn" ratio played no role in it. If anything, OR's longest drive argues against you and Stacie's point ... it was mostly pass .. but ate 24 seconds per play, whereas, LSU's longest drive only ate up 22 seconds per play. Just sayin'
We may not be doomed but based on what I saw from the Auburn game, Alabama is going to pound our azz!!!! I also dont care how many games Mettenberger has played, he is not an 18 year freshman, he looked scared when rushed, if he does not get better, then.................................
Yep, Bama sure shredded some great defenses so far....oh wait. It's hard to get better when you have to keep worrying about your pass protection on every snap.
We have areas to improve in, but that's be beautiful thing about near-misses. You get all the benefits of a disaster without the consequences. It can only help us.
He holds the ball too long, period. No offensive line is going to give you 4-5 seconds on every pass. In addition, I'll vote that even though ZM runs like a tree, I would rather he do it instead of bend over in anticipation of getting sacked. The pass offense in this game was as bad or worse than in New Orleans.
There are unquestionably areas for everyone to improve on. I just don't understand this growing sense of impending doom a lot of people seem to have based on 4 games in a 12-game season.
Its obvious concerns but we truely have no way of knowing how the season will pan out without it actually panning out. LSU could go 13 and 0 without a passing game, end up in the National Championship game, and get murdered by someone who they could have beaten.
We watched a very different game. In N.O., the passing attack was painful, embarrassing, paralyzed, frustrating, ineffective and we lost. In AUB, the passing was varied, on target, somewhat frustrating w/drops or QB pressure, but at the same time it was an exciting game and we won! I leave that game worried about pass protection but optimistic about our passing offense..... but that's just me.
