He would have to start having losing seasons or something like multiple 4-5 loss seasons with no show of promise with younger players. In fact, even one losing season would be hard to stomach. The way the vocal fanbase feels about Miles reminds me of the way Charlie Mac was regarded while he was at LSU. He was never quite good enough because people still (even years after he left) idolized Paul Dietzel, who stayed very few years and then moved on to greener pastures. Charlie Mac became an LSU man, but goodness gracious, he just couldn't beat the Bear. Dissatisfaction finally reached a fever pitch, and he was fired without even one losing season. LSU then wandered in the football abyss for two decades until Saban was hired and brought us back to the promised land. He left for greener pastures, and LSU fans don't like the goofy guy who replaced him. That goofy guy wins a hell of a lot of games, but he doesn't beat Bama every time (though he beats them more than any previous coaches have.)
Les Miles and Mac have been compared alot in my discussions with friends here. Athough the people I speak to love Mac more than they do Miles.
But they didn't when he was here--blee dat. I was at one of my dad's high school games in the late 70's. Mac walked up into the stands at Olympia Stadium and was booed. People all over town had "Help Mac Pack" bumper stickers. People treated Mac like shit, and he was a good guy and loved LSU.
Are you kidding me? Replace a guy with an 80% winning record? A guy who is recruiting extremely well? A guy with championship trophies and a crystal football? There is not a university president or AD in the fucking country who would even entertain the notion. This is silly-ass fan talk. Seriously. We can bitch about his flaws like every other fan base in the country does about their coach. But he has done nothing remotely fireable. It took multiple losing seasons for Archer, Hallman, and Dinardo to be fired. No way on planet earth is LSU firing a coach with a winning record. In practical terms . . . he has a contract. Without cause, we would owe him about $20 million. Short of a major recruiting scandal with Les caught red-handed, it will take actual losing seasons before anybody starts talking about "red lines". There is absolutely no guarantee that we can replace him with anyone better. Everyone with a proven better record than Les is at a school where he isn't leaving. This whole absurd witch hunt reeks of Charlie McClendon's ouster. 18 non-losing seasons and LSU's winningest coach was ousted because he wasn't Paul Dietzel or Paul Bryant. And did we replace him with a better coach? No. It was the start of a 20-year 124-100-6 down-spiral of Jerry Stoval, Bill Arnsparger, Mike Archer, Curley Hallman, and Gerry Dinardo before we found a better coach. Remember the fable of the dog and the bone. Please.
Sometimes we just need to enjoy the ride. All this bitching and carrying on, talkin about how stupid and how much of an idiot a dude who has overseen the greatest period of LSU football in its history and has entertained THE FUCK out of everyone in this board, is getting old man. Disagree and question decision making but enough with calling the dude, who does pretty damn good most of the time with everything he does, names like idiot and dumbass, moron and shit. Yeah you will get some head scratchers once maybe twice a season, but the big question is...... Yes I just smoked a bowl. Some of you should too, you may be taking this all too seriously....
I would like to believe that the transcript was wrong, that whoever typed that just forgot some words or put a few extra in, sadly it is spot on. The guy really is lost in the sauce.
"COACH MILES: You know what, I would like to tell you that it's this guy or that guy, and I'd never come to this meeting and tell you that anyway, but I don't really see it that way. I see it as there's some collective focusing that needs to take place, okay. That's done best by the head coach. That's why I challenge me, for us to have the number of mistakes in that game. Coach Miles, step up, make the call, let us know why, fill me in. I'm a team that can, and I want to know, Coach, what you want from me. I'm going to do better. Yeah, do I think that we will look at each guy? Yeah, we'll look at each guy. But I think we've got the right guys." WHAT THE FUCK.........
