After reading Miles comments in the morning paper where he is basically saying it's the players that are not executing and he does'nt think there is a problem with the scheme or gameplan I don't think those two co dcs are going anywhere.
Mallory isnt going anywhere. He's a michigan guy who has been with Miles for a while. Les will not fire him. Cant see it happening folks. Miles is loyal especially to a guy like Mallory. Peveto is a different story. He has no long term connections to Miles, as far as I know, and could easily be fired or reassigned. Maybe Peveto is the fall guy and Mallory gets the full title? I dont think that will happen but its possible. I dont believe Miles will fire these guys after one season. He will give them at least 2 (maybe 3) years to get their working relationship in harmony. If anything happens this year its maybe Peveto but Miles isnt going to demote his loyal assistant, Mallory, even if that happens.
Is hiring/firing of assistants totally in Les' control? I'd be surprised if the AD & BOS weren't involved.
If the schemes are really okay.. I haven't really looked at them.. i'm fine with that. Miles needs to persuade his co-DCs to coach intensity. Use this Tulane week to go back to the basics.. Good tackling, swarm to the ball, and play every play.
It doesn't hurt for our opponents to underestimate LSU either. LSU has a talented defense that isn't playing very well. That is fixable. The reverse is not.
Sort of sad, isn't it, that the LSU defense has become - literally - a national joke , or at the very least the butt of several jokes circulated nationally. I hate to see that - the D has always been our pride! I sure do hope CLM can find the answers. I believe he will. From the movie Secondhand Lions comes this fine speech about believing: "Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money, money and power mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil; and I want you to remember this, that love... true love never dies. You remember that, boy. You remember that. Doesn't matter if it's true or not. You see, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in." Like true love for our LSU TIGERS! :geaux:
I think......I'm pretty sure..............no - it is definitely already too late...... Thanks for the warning. Where were you when I was young enough for advice to make a difference?
Posted this in another thread, but it seems to be more fitting here. In regards to being made fun of nationally, this was from Stewart Mandel's weekly mailbag on CNNSI: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/stewart_mandel/10/28/mandel.mailbag/2.html So sad, but true.
