Thinking outside the box here. Maybe, we should: -fire Joe Alleva (What's HIS buyout ??) -hire Les Miles as the new Athletic Director (We wouldn't have to deal with his buyout) -Hire a new head coach !! Seriously, there's no need now to kick Les Miles to the curb and pay him off...and the game management issues would disappear instantly!!!! Let's give him a promotion ala Mallory, Proveto and Porter. Think of it like Shepard moving from QB to WR !!!! I really think he's all LSU, is an outstanding person with whom the alumni could really bond with and would make a great AD. If the guy can fund raise half as good as he recruits....:thumb: I am being serious here (for a change :yelwink2
Ya know, I've never really thought about this angle before. As a boss, it would suck knowing a subordinate made more money than you.
Party pooper. Really though, I think it is a fine idea, but then we are left with one of the very same problems we currently have with the idea of replacing Miles. That is, just who do you replace him with. A lot of posters on this board talk about replacing him, firing him, but none offer up a truly valid option for his replacement. Most of the names that get thrown around, get shot down for one reason or another. The main one being that Miles would have to be replaced by a GREAT COACH, a lateral move would not be sufficient. Most, if not all, of the great coaches really aren't going to be available to come to LSU. Like it or not, they are already in great situations, with great programs, making great money. To try for some up and comer I'm not so sure would be the best idea. Most would say that they want a proven coach that has proven they can compete and succeed in the SEC, and there just aren't that many of them out there. Granted there are some very good options, but like I said and have said, I just don't think that they are or will be available to a program that gets rid of it's coach with the record that Miles has. Now that said, if handled properly, and he is moved to AD then maybe it can be done in a way that doesn't come off looking like we are firing him, but rather promoting him. Of course this would then go back to the point of
I don't know . . . Athletics is big business at LSU and LSU probably needs a professional athletic director. If they hire a former coach who has no business experience, they'll have to hire him a professional assistant. Remember Skip had Dan Radokovich and Herb Vincent to do most of the daily management. They should have done this with Charlie McClendon instead of bringing back Paul Dietzel. Cholly Mac later proved that he was a fine businessman when he turned the loser Tangerine Bowl into a money-making major bowl (now the Capitol One Bowl) and transformed the American Football Coaches Association into an effective body for advocating coaching, making sure that low-paid assistants have retirement plans that accommodate their frequent transfers beteens schools.
Awful idea. What qualifications does he have to help the baseball team or track squads or any other sport? We already screwed up once with promoting a Coach with Skip Bertman.
