Has anyone considered the option that Aranda could be a candidate to replace Miles? Not saying it would be a good or bad idea, just wondering if y'all thought he could be a candidate. Given the time of the Aranda hire and after the circumstances which led to Fisher not coming to Baton Rouge.
good question. was just spit balling for the sake of conversation. Damn to be a fly on the wall though.
I apologize for being a little late to the game here, but here's my take on all of this --- #1 Les did a remarkable job at LSU up until I think 2014. His record speaks for itself. So does the year-after-year recruiting classes, the number of guys getting to the NFL, the 2007 and 2011 teams and their amazing seasons. Les ran a clean program and was a great ambassador for LSU. He was quirky and gave us a lot of great things during his tenure. Hell, the man won 114 games and I cannot discount any of his success. #2 But there were flaws. Many of them. The three or 4 things that stick out to me the most were: A) Our QB issues almost every year. I mean, it's consistently been our problem since Matt Flynn left. Mett had a descent junior year, followed by a really solid Senior year, but other than that, we've been pretty putrid at the QB position. Year after year after year. B) Our sloppy and confused style of play. And I'm talking about the dumb stuff - breaking a huddle after a time out and getting a delay of game penalty... a kickoff going out of bounds several games in a row.... and the times where our players look confused and just sloppy overall. Another point here, we run a 1970's ground and pound offense that we've run since 2008 and our OLine is missing blocks and our WR's are running the wrong routes or whatever. And these guys have all been in this same system 2-4 years and still don't know what to do at times.... and this gets even more exposed at the end of halves and games, i.e. the 2 minute drill. We look like hot garbage on offense at the end of halves and games. C) I watch us play and haven't felt like we've utilized our talent properly, or developed them enough or gotten the most out of them in YEARS. You sign back-to-back-to-back Top Ten recruiting classes loaded with 4 and 5 star players and can't finish a season ranked in the Top 10. We haven't finished a season in the Top Ten since 2011. And quit telling me we're a young team. We've got 4 and 5 star players all over the 2 deep and on the bench. Get them ready to play, coach. D) The clock management stuff. Drives me crazy. I said it in my sloppy play section, but I'll reemphasize it here, we look like a dumpster fire at the end of halves and games on offense. #3 It was time for a change. Les was given every opportunity to right the ship and he failed to do so. So many other programs have evolved and adapted to the current college landscape, but Les just wouldn't... or couldn't. Here's a summary of the 2016 Tigers after 4 games ... for me: -17 returning starters -5 Consecutive Top Ten recruiting classes in a row -The highest paid coaching staff in the country... let these 3 things sink in. And we've scored 0 fourth quarter points so far. We couldn't beat a mediocre Auburn team. We couldn't put away a mediocre Miss St team. I mean, we gave up 16 points and 18 points in our 2 losses. Our team looks uninspired and sloppy... again. And there were no signs that Les was going to get this team headed in the right direction. So, it was time to cut bait and give Coach O and this group a chance to finish this season on a positive note and get a jump start on a search for a new head coach.
I'm wondering what happens to O in the offseason when he isn't made the permanent HC. There's no secret LSU is looking for a new HC, does O feel disrespected and leave the program? Is he aware this is not a tryout but a temporary position?
Just my opinion, but I think that O believes if he finishes strong and beats Bama, he has the strongest claim to the title. And I don't think he would be wrong. But, if he does both of those and LSU still goes in a different direction, then I think he will feel snubbed, just like he did at USCw, and will leave.
Coach O is aware it's both. They put him in place bc he's one of us and a crowd favorite and a motivator that gets shit done. Just what we all need. He shit canned cam allegedly so hes sick of this shitty offense too. He has about a 5% chance of getting the gig. He loves lsu so he's gonna be here as long as someone wants him. But like he said he's going to do whatever it takes to get the team right and let the chips fall where they may. I'm still laughing however when his first sentence was this is a great day for lsu football. I don't think he meant it in a bad way but it wasn't great if you're Les.
