Les Miles doesn't run up the score? What about it?

Putting up 50+ comes across as being a bit arrogant unless you're playing a bitter rival.

App. State, Georgia Southern, Western Illinois, and others, simply play these games for the money. Any self respecting coach isn't going to pile it on because: (1) you don't want to humiliate the other coach and (2) you don't want to demoralize the players on those teams who are trying to prepare for their own level of play and (3) you want to see how a lot of your own new players respond in real game situations.

It was a perfect game under terrible conditions. Hatch and Lee will be better next week, K. Williams may disapear if he doesn't get that fire lit. The defense was lights out.

Les Miles is a classy guy and I do not think running up the score is why he coaches football. He accomplished everything he wanted in this game. He played everyone he wanted to play and they did what was expected for game one of the season. I love LSU football and I love SEC, but I think these teams all over the nation who just run up the score to make a point is definitely not what sportsmanship is about. I was disappointed in The Gators not pulling Tebow out of the game until the end of the 4th. That was just plain arrogant and running the risk of getting him injured in preseason. I give ASU an applause just for coming down to enjoy our field and our stadium. I also applaud Hawaii for going all the way to Florida to play a game they knew they probably would not win. That is what football is about. I'm starting to like some of these preseason games just to see who will choose to play who.

LSU's depth of experience has been a key facet of team success. Teams that don't use "cupcake" games to season their backups either don't have good backups or are performing for the coaches' poll.

FWIW - I don't think Miles would mind putting up 60 points. He just wouldn't sacrifice a chance to build quality depth to do it. I think that's the main point.

Running up the score isn't Les's bag, baby.

Remember Fresno state...Kneeling on the goal line for the final minute and a half while sitting on a 40 point lead?

    I agree 100%.

Never risk an injury and have those subs playing in the second quarter. Look at Beanie, he's likely out of USC game. They should have never had him in there.

I'm glad Tressel is a coaching idiot. :crystal:

Hey, let's kill Tulane this year.

LSU (all time scoring high or 80+ points like 84), Tulane 0

Maybe that's one good thing that the BCS system has brought us. Since there's more than just the AP poll to determine standings, scores like 88-0 aren't commonly seen anymore. All it takes is one point more than the other guy to win.

But many years ago, I remember teams like Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma and others showing off for the pollsters with gaudy margins of victory. All those really prove is that the coaches have no shred of decency. (Remember the "bad" karate instructor in "The Karate Kid" movies? Some of the old coaches were a lot like that guy. It's not enough to win - you have to beat the 'enemy' senseless in the process.

Now, in cases of serious rivalry, I can see where there'd be a lot of satisfaction involved. But when a big program plays the "Little Sisters of the Poor", it's just not justified. IMHO. :eek:ldskule:
