So, you are agreeing with me? Zook never won anything. Out of the gate he underpreformed. He never had a season where he lost fewer than 4 games. He lost 5 games in 2 of 3 years. I think Solich and Coker are better more parallel examples.

I agree with this. Like I said. Firing Miles just see what we can get would be an awful idea.

    Well you said that:

Which is not true. He tied for the 1st in the East which is pretty much "sniffing the SEC East championship."

    But I completely agree with:

But as I stated was really the point I was making.

Florida is an example of where a good coach was replaced with a better coach so it can happen.

Coker problems were every bit as much off the field issues as it was the W/L record. A problem we don't have. There are more examples of letting go a solid coach, due to a couple of down seasons, and it taking a life time to find a replacement that gets the program back to where the fanbase wants it to be. Usually back to where the coach that was let go in the first place had the program.

    not quite the same.

Zook took a ten win team (2 years reemoved from an SEC championship) and immediately turned them into a 5 loss program.

Zook's absolute best years equaled Miles' absolute worst.
Miles has only lost 5 games once.
Zook did it twice (and may or may not have lost a 5th game a third time if he had coached the bowl game).
Zook also lost to Mississippi St. team that hadn't come within 2 touchdowns of any SEC school not named Vandy for almost 3 years.

I guess my concern as much as we all wear our purple and gold glasses. After Saban left we ended up with Miles. Not bad but not what everyone expected. We all threw out names like Stoops, etc. They didnt even take the call.
Yes LSU is a school you can win at, but I think we are delusional that we think coaches who are highly paid and premier programs like OU, Nebraska etc. Will just say "Oh my LSU I have to go there"
If/when Miles moves on. I think we will be disappointed (as many were when Miles was hired) because your premier coaches are pretty happy where they are.
PLus I am a Native of BR so I love my home town, but lets face it its not listed in the top 100 places of places to live. Again I am not bashing home. It is my home and i love it. BUT if you are not FROM Louisiana its a pretty big culture shock. So its not like some guy is dying to move to Baton Rouge.
We will end up with some retread (Like Tuberville) which isnt a horrible prospect. Or some young coordinator type. Stoops, Saban, Pelini, etc etc. they are not leaving their programs to come to LSU. Be realistic. Nor is Chucky, why would he leave a cush TV job to coach in college football. Really. He is an NFL guy always has been. Which also means he probably would have challanges with recruiting.
See Saban - Failed NFL. - Great in college. Two different deals all together. And for those few who actually think Saban would entertain coming back. You need to turn the porch light off on that now. That will never happen. He wont leave Bama, and when/if he does it is for Penn State. (My prediction when Joepa retires)

Anyway, part of me is ready for a change knowing it would be a few years before we realistically can return to what we had. But another part of me looks at recruiting, the fact we DONT see LSU players on ESPN for getting in trouble (See Fla, UGA, Tenn, etc)
makes me think the grass isnt always greener.

There is a chance a really good coach from a non BCS school (TCU, Boise) will want to try their hand in a premier conference. So that is a possible option. The money would be an enticement. But look at Patterson. I live in Dallas and he has said many times he likes living in Ft. Worth his family is settled. TCU will never fire him and he is paid pretty well. IE quality of life is pretty solid for him. Why would he leave for a job where he could be fire if he doesnt win 10 games a year.

    Note:
"Zook also lost to Mississippi St. team that hadn't come within 2 touchdowns of any SEC school not named Vandy for almost 3 years"
Might want to recheck that statement... (IE See Last year vs LSU)

Kind of torn on this one.

I like Bo, but come on, they had horrible offense last year and lost to Iowa State. Everyone is jumping on this Nebraska bandwagon a little too quick. They had a running back from WESTERN KENTUCKY run for 155 against them last week! If LSU had given up 155 yds rushing to a single back from WKU it would be Les Miles fault....so why is it not the perfect Defensive minded Pellini's fault?
Grass is always greener on the other side......all I ask is that some of you stop smoking that grass just before you post!

This... and once you get your word and name in print that you want your head coach fired, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
You start watching games looking for the bad plays that prove your case. There's even a small part of you that wants a loss, just to prove your point. It becomes a no win situation.
Then, when and if you get your way, in comes the new coach. "Oops, I didn't mean for them to pick THAT clown. I was thinking Bob Stoops!!"
And, finally, after two or three years, you realize you may have over-reacted just a tad.

or you stay content with just analyzing others.

I'd rather go through the turmoil of seeking out excellence than stomach mind-numbing football for 20 years. Of course, politics plays a roll (I think the powers chose a coach in Miles who would be more passive than Saban), and politics in Louisiana seems to rolling in a slow boil at least. Would the responsible parties make a solid decision... don't know about that.

But this is our escape, we shouldn't be playing not to lose. Play smart, but play to win. This is the last place we should be overly conservative.

I didnt know a top 25 team 8 of 10 years ( one of those years we weren't we Blew out GT), 2 NC's and a 99 win decade is dull....

    Sorry for you I am!
